Pneumonia is definitely not an illness that lasts 24 hours then you're over it. I'm guessing he'll have residual weakness for weeks.
No, no lightening, but just very dry.
Our electricity keeps going out...even this morning. I'm on the battery-powered laptop.
Yeah - it just drags on and on... But eventually he won't be afraid to laugh for fear of coughin'.
LOL I'll tell him you said that. :)
I ended up with a really foul tasting yellow expectorant that really did some good. It really feels better when that stuff starts breakin' up.
Well the morning inspection is not promising. I don't think what is left can be straightened up with out having the worry that in the tiniest bit of wind (especially if a roof is back on) it could all come down. I'm out of batteries in my camera (I'll get some today), to show you, but the post that are still standing are either broke off at the ground, or leaning back by like 3-4 inches. You can see gapes in the ground where the posts pushed back. I'd say what is standing is only standing because the roof is gone. You put a roof on it, it won't stay up either from the weight or from wind catching under the roof.
Mack said he is going to call the insurance company today and make a claim. In all the years we've been married we've never had a claim. This is why we have insurance, if they cancel us or go up, we'll just go somewhere else. So my hope now is that the cost of the 6 stall shed, should cover enough to get at least a 2-3 stall one put up by someone else:) But that could be wishful thinking.
Becky
Hey tuffy, I'm glad your husband is feeling better. I'm sorry for not remembering to ask earlier.
Becky
No apology necessary, I know you guys are on my side. :)
I sure hope it's enough to get you a new barn :~D
Let us know how it goes, of course!
Becky - I'm just catching up here after the long weekend, but I sure hated to see what happened to your barn. Stuff like that just scares me to death. I'm glad none of your family or your horses got hurt. It sounded like straight-line winds to me. We get that quite a bit around here too. Like it's not enough to get tornadoes! Hopefully your homeowners will come through and you can get something nice rebuilt.
Hair - The kitten pictures and the Christmas Card sure were cute.
Tuffydoodle - I hope your husband is feeling better. I think sick husbands are worse than sick kids about being whiny. ;o)
It sounds like everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, even if the weather didn't cooperate very well for some. It was a gorgeous day here, with highs in the 60's. We ate lunch at my Mom's then ate supper at the in-law's and by the time we were done I was feeling as stuffed as the turkey.
I rode Bob on Saturday and he did really well. I had ridden him for a couple of miles a few times there at the barn but this was his first real outing since he got hurt. One of the guys had a Weimaraner and let him go out on the trail with us and I thought Bob was gonna dump me a time or two when we first started out. He settled down pretty quickly but he still gave him the evil-eye every time he ran past and kicked at him a time or two when he caught me not paying attention. I had the little video camera in my hand and the button had come off and I was trying not to drop it coz it's only about the size of a tic-tac and Bob took the opportunity to take a swipe at the dog about that time. The little booger! Luckily he missed. We rode the south end of the trail first, then we went back to the depot to stop for lunch. There was a saddle club group there from somewhere else and one of them had a couple of dogs. One of them was a little Dachshund-looking dog and he ran right up under Bob's back feet when we stopped and Bob popped him hard enough to make him holler. I felt bad, but people shouldnt let their dogs run loose around strange horses, coz a lot of them aren't used to dogs. After lunch we rode the north end as far as the covered bridge. It was probably 11 miles in all and that was enough for Bob. I guess I'll start riding him regular again so he should get his strength back pretty soon.
Hey girl! So sorry that your husband has been ill. There are several types of pneumonia and they are all caused by different bugs. It is usually transmitted via "respiratory droplets" which means that your husband was exposed to an infected person at some point.
We just covered diseases in Microbiology so I have lots of this type of information packed into my brain.
How are Tuffy and that new baby doing?
Jake was hobbling around the pasture last week. He acted like his leg was broken but he just had a heel bruise. He is almost normal now with just an off step or 2. A few days of bute helped him over the worst of it. He spent a lot of time standing in his stall (has free access to stall/pasture) because his bedding was very soft. Henkell is getting fat because I haven't had time to work him much due to school. But, only 3 more weeks of school left. The hard stuff will be over until next fall.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
I am so sorry about your barn! We had wind like the dickens here last night, gusting up to 50 MPH. I fed in the barn to keep the hay from blowing away. The wind was so bad it was causing something outside on the house to make a moaning and whistling sound. It completely freaked out my Jack Russell. He crawled under the blanket with me and wouldn't come out until the wind died down some. Also, we were watching War of the Worlds so that added to the creepiness.
Fortunately, nothing I have blew away.
We are under a fire hazard warning. Yesterday, a bunch of acreage SW of Fort Worth burned up along with about a dozen houses.
We are so dry due to lack of rain it doesn't take much to set it off and with the wind, it can take out a lot of territory fast.
At least it isn't raining so your horses aren't getting wet.
We're just returning the dirt that blew down here from Oklahoma!!
Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma all trade dirt every so often. I used to live north of Amarillo so got used to the wind. 20 MPH was a gentle breeze. I swear some of the dirt that blew in must have come from Canada.
Check out these guys: http://www.chinookstalls.com/. John Lyons uses their stuff. I don't know how their pricing is though. They make a shed row type. Thought about using their stuff one day when I have to replace my current barn or if we sell this place and need to put up another barn.
You've got mail.
I came accross this article today.

Has it already been discussed here?

My keyboard is sticky! LOL
Good to hear from you Sharn! I was glad to hear that you finally got to spend a decent Thanksgiving with just your family and not having to cook and clean for an army.
It's raining today, but the bad weather that was supposed to hit us pretty much fizzled out before it got here, thank Heavens! It was pretty windy yesterday and this morning, but nothing like what Becky got. It's really warm today though, way too warm for late November. It's hard to believe that Christmas is less than a month away. I got my tree put up yesterday evening but haven't decorated it yet. I'll do that this evening. Did you get your tree yet?
