Well the morning inspection is not promising. I don't think what is left can be straightened up with out having the worry that in the tiniest bit of wind (especially if a roof is back on) it could all come down. I'm out of batteries in my camera (I'll get some today), to show you, but the post that are still standing are either broke off at the ground, or leaning back by like 3-4 inches. You can see gapes in the ground where the posts pushed back. I'd say what is standing is only standing because the roof is gone. You put a roof on it, it won't stay up either from the weight or from wind catching under the roof.
Mack said he is going to call the insurance company today and make a claim. In all the years we've been married we've never had a claim. This is why we have insurance, if they cancel us or go up, we'll just go somewhere else. So my hope now is that the cost of the 6 stall shed, should cover enough to get at least a 2-3 stall one put up by someone else:) But that could be wishful thinking.
Becky
I sure hope it's enough to get you a new barn :~D
Let us know how it goes, of course!
Becky - I'm just catching up here after the long weekend, but I sure hated to see what happened to your barn. Stuff like that just scares me to death. I'm glad none of your family or your horses got hurt. It sounded like straight-line winds to me. We get that quite a bit around here too. Like it's not enough to get tornadoes! Hopefully your homeowners will come through and you can get something nice rebuilt.
Hair - The kitten pictures and the Christmas Card sure were cute.
Tuffydoodle - I hope your husband is feeling better. I think sick husbands are worse than sick kids about being whiny. ;o)
It sounds like everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, even if the weather didn't cooperate very well for some. It was a gorgeous day here, with highs in the 60's. We ate lunch at my Mom's then ate supper at the in-law's and by the time we were done I was feeling as stuffed as the turkey.
I rode Bob on Saturday and he did really well. I had ridden him for a couple of miles a few times there at the barn but this was his first real outing since he got hurt. One of the guys had a Weimaraner and let him go out on the trail with us and I thought Bob was gonna dump me a time or two when we first started out. He settled down pretty quickly but he still gave him the evil-eye every time he ran past and kicked at him a time or two when he caught me not paying attention. I had the little video camera in my hand and the button had come off and I was trying not to drop it coz it's only about the size of a tic-tac and Bob took the opportunity to take a swipe at the dog about that time. The little booger! Luckily he missed. We rode the south end of the trail first, then we went back to the depot to stop for lunch. There was a saddle club group there from somewhere else and one of them had a couple of dogs. One of them was a little Dachshund-looking dog and he ran right up under Bob's back feet when we stopped and Bob popped him hard enough to make him holler. I felt bad, but people shouldnt let their dogs run loose around strange horses, coz a lot of them aren't used to dogs. After lunch we rode the north end as far as the covered bridge. It was probably 11 miles in all and that was enough for Bob. I guess I'll start riding him regular again so he should get his strength back pretty soon.
