The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah
Not something I do often but I was just laying there with my brain in hyperdrive, thinking about stuff I need to do, so I got up.

I just got up, and it's only willpower that's preventing me from going back to bed. However, I hear that it's taking bribes this morning.... hmm...

Good morning!

Yesterday we found our precious pony had ripped her manger off the wall... I don't know what she's doing in her stall at night, but I wish she would stop ;~D

I'll be out again today.... another full day in Seattle. Ugh... Hate that.

Bad pony! You have anything for her to play with in there? They like to destroy those balls, and other little toys you hang in the stalls. Cooler weather, and they start to feel really good, and ornery.

You have a great day in the big city today.

Where ya going Cindy?

Weather is going to be too bad here this weekend to do anything outside. Rain and about 25 degrees cooler than it has been. Leaves are really starting to change colors now. I took the granddaughter and the dog for a walk down the bike trail yesterday, it was so nice. Temperatures have been in the low 80's.

My calender at work has a beautiful picture of Vermont, in the fall. One of these days I will get to the New England States.

We hung a gallon jug with rocks in it from a tree out in the paddock for a game.... they played with it about a minute and never did again. But we may rig something up just to see.

Yeah, horrible was more what I was thinking. But you know what was funny was that his name is Nubbin. Now he lives up to his name.

Yall getting any storms from Tammy?

Nah, it's all staying over in Georgia. It's just cloudy and misting a little over my way. We had a cool front come in last night so it's not supposed to get out of the 60's today. So nice! I'll bet Sharn got a pretty good soaking out of it though.

...they played with it about a minute and never did again...

Yeah, anything you WANT them to play with they ignore, but the stuff you want them to leave alone they seem to delight in busting all to pieces. Bob is real bad to get a hold of my broom if I forget and leave it out. He likes to step on the handle and them grab the straw and pull until either the straw comes out or the handle breaks. The little bugger! If I leave any spray bottles out in the wash rack he'll try to bite holes in them. And heaven help me if he ever gets in the tack room. You have never seen such a mess in your life! He acts more like a puppy than a horse.

Rusty loved playing with the hose if I left it in his trough after filling it. He'd chew holes in it. I've had to cut lenghts of it off till it just about doesn't reach anymore:). I need to buy a new one.

Yeah, Tennessee used to do that if I ever let the trough get empty. I didn't have water at the barn where I used to live and had the hose run across the yard to the trough at the fence. I always left the end of the hose hanging through the fence so I could just turn the water on at the house on my way to the barn. He knew that the water was supposed to come out of the hose and I guess he figured if he pulled and chewed on it enough it eventually would. I've some home and found 20 feet of hose pulled through the fence. Goofy horse!

When I was babysitting the animals (horses, cats, dogs, fish, birds, etc) for my riding instructor in Susanville One of the horses, named Jiggy, would take the electric cord and play with it when it was off. She had turned it off when she left and Jiggy had unhooked one ind of it from the fence and was swinging it around and got the cloth part wrapped around his head. I have no idea how he kept from poking his eye out, but when I drove down the hill he was just standing there waiting for me to rescue him. He does the same with his blanket. I would find him with his blanket over his head and NONE of his hooks were broken. I have no idea whatsoever how he does that.

Good riding weather. Cool, and no bugs! As, long as the trails aren't a mess from too much rain. We still have not had a frost yet. Very unusual. Flowers are still going strong. The heat this summer put them back, and now they are doing good.
