The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

So sorry to hear you are sick. Nice way to ruin a Holiday. Hopefully, you recover fast. If not, just lay there and watch football! Why does your dog have a pancake on it's head? I checked your about page and saw that. I thought you lived in the South, but wanted to make sure. That is why I checked it out. Is there much flu going around?

I don't THINK this is flu - just a bad, bad cold.

The pancake on the head is an old FR joke . . .

There's a fellow in Japan who had a hobby of making his pet bunny rabbit balance stuff on his head - teacups, rice cakes, you name it - and taking its picture.

Some troll posted a ridiculous screed, and somebody posted a reply with a pic of the bunny with the cap "I have no idea what you're talking about, so here's a picture of a bunny with a pancake on its head." Of course that led to variations on variations (including Rachel Corrie on a bunny's head and pics of IHOP, etc.) So Shelley just seemed like a natural. Several other dog owners have similar pics - troll threads are a good place to look for them.

That greeting is so cute. My granddaughter loved it. Some people have so much talent for creating. I did see it on another forum, but thanks for posting here.

Oh, that is how that all started. I wondered about that. There a few others, moose, cheese, sister, and a few others, that I see. When a thread starts to go that way, it's time to find another one to read. ;') Thanks.

Shelly does look cute with a pancake on her head..lol

(and throw away halters fixed with hay strings, etc.)

We certainly can't have those around when the photographers from "Better Horsekeeping" magazine show up.

To: HairOfTheDog; All

Happy Thanksgiving Eve y'all!

I've been on vacation for a couple of days so I've been catching up this morning.

Hair - Glad to hear about the trailer trash being evicted. Hopefully they'll take all their frap with them, but I'll bet you a 20 pound turkey they don't. Nice job on unloading the old camper though!

CindyDawg - Nice looking fence! No wonder your back's been hurting. Bending over like that always gets me down in mine too.

I had a nice 4 days off. I got another roll of hay put out for the horses then managed to clean out the tack room at the old barn at my BIL's. It was full of crap that the people who lived there before left. Imagine that! ;o) Then I straightened up the storage building at our house. We just threw stuff in there when we moved and never really arranged it properly. You could hardly get in there, much less find anything you needed. It's so much better now!

I didn't get to ride on Saturday like I planned because my riding buddy was sick, but I did take Bob out for another short ride. I'm definately going to have some borium put on his shoes the next time if I'm going to keep doing these little exercise runs down the paved road. He spooked a time or two and almost fell down. Road rash would NOT be good for either one of us right now!

I also rode Grace for the first time yesterday afternoon. Nothing much, just a few turns around the pasture, but she did fine, with not even a hint of a buck. I think I'm still going to take her to the trainer after the first of the year, just so he can put some hours on her and get her settled in her gait, but she'll have a pretty good foundation for him to start with. I need to go ahead and have her wolf teeth pulled though, so they'll be all healed up by the time I take her to the trainer. I tried to have them pulled back in the summer but they hadn't come through yet and the vet wanted to wait a little longer to see if they would. I'm going to try to get them done this afternoon since we're getting off early for the holiday.

If all goes well, I'm planning on getting together with some other ladies for light ride on Friday. We're going to the rails-to-trails with the covered bridge. Some of these women don't ride alot and are fairly timid when they do, so it's a really nice place to go for that. I plan on taking Bob for his first real outing since he got hurt and it's a really good trail for that too.

Gee, I've never heard of that happening!

Be careful on the road with Bob, and have a nice ride Friday with the ladies. I'm impressed that you're starting Grace yourself, even if you'll still send her to the trainer.

We have a rails to trails place here, and It'd be a pretty good place to go in winter, I bet, because it wouldn't be muddy. Only thing about ours is, the footing is round pee gravel (which is the original track bed, I think) and they really work hard to walk in it, it's like walking on marbles. Is it that way where you are?

The rails-to-trails here is covered in fine crushed limestone, almost a rock dust. The nice thing about it is that when it gets rained on and "sets up" it's as smooth and as pavement but not as hard and slick. I really like it...

Well that's a lot better than pea gravel.

My big ole Tom cat has decided to be a momma to the kittens... :~D

The kittens really hate it :~D They try to squirm away, like kids bein' kissed by some scruffy old uncle they barely know.

These two are Pippin getting in the way of folding laundry :~D

No! You can't have this!

My boss sent it to me. I thought it was cute. Not 13.95 cute but cute:') I had to turn the AC on on the way home. I had the heater on thids morning. No wonder the horses are getting colds. I'm headed out to take Sarah Lees temp. As long as she's eating and not running a fever, I'm letting it run it's course. It's like a dang day care out there!
