The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Sounds like you will be getting today what we had yesterday. Thankfully the wind has finally stopped blowing. It's a nice bright sunny day, but still pretty cold. They are forecasting in the 40's for highs. If the wind doesn't pick up again, that won't be too bad.

Glad you made it thru last night. That type of weather is scary at night.

I bet it is arthritis, in fact I'd guarantee it. And that might also mean the old injury gets particularly sore when the weather turns.

I started my old lab on Rymadil when he started slowing down hunting... At first I gave it only before during and after hunts in winter, and later I'd give it for a week or so when he'd look stiff. He'd remain good for awhile then, and when he started looking pained again I'd give him another dose. My little Zulu I gave it only from time to time also, but you can give it every day as they age and get worse.

It's an anti-inflammatory, equivalent but not the same as Bute. They make it in a yummy tab they'll just eat freely, so it's not a fight to get it in the dog. It sure would make her feel better.

I'll give the vet a call and see if I can get some. I haven't really needed a vet for the dogs since my old one died. I really don't like the vet that is in Bixby, but he'd be convinent. He's just such a sour sour man. I've used him in emergencies a few times. He's been around for years, most everyone in Bixby use him for small animals. He'll do some stuff on horses not alot. I'm wondering if he'll give me the drug without seeing the dog.

Arthritis is pretty much assumed in older dogs, and Rymidil is given as an arthritis preventative around middle age as often as a treatment, so most vets are pretty free about prescribing it. He shouldn't need extensive tests or xrays or anything, but he may want to see the dog for general health and a sure weight. Has he seen her before, just not for this?

Actually it's the cold clashing with all the heat we've been having that caused it. It was real hot out last night before the storm but right after it passed I'll bet it was at least 20 degrees cooler, maybe more, all in the space of about an hour.

No actually I don't remember him ever seeing this dog. I've gotten wormers for her from him, but He's never seen her, or if he has it was years and years ago.

Well, he may have to see her then, at least for a preliminary checkup, before he can dispense drugs for her.

No. I rescinded. They re-assigned some of the stuff that was dropped in my lap and I get off at 3. Hopefully I can have a life now:')

Cindy has hip dysplacia too. I give her the remadyl when she gets sluggish, esp with cold or rainy days. It perks her right up. Expensive though.

I have to pry her jaws apart and hold her mouth together and sit over her till she swallows it. She knows it's not food:')

Regular pills or the chew tabs? I've certainly had the same experience with the tablets, but the chewable tabs, they really like.

They're expensive for a full size dog if you had to give them every day... for an 80 pound Logan they were about $1 a pill... but I'd give him one a day when needed, and not all the time. Zulus were less because she was little.

I don't know. I'm scared this may not just be muscle. I'm getting better in some ways and some not. The muscle relaxer doesn't help much. There is no way today that I could ride in a car for 5 hours but I can't ride a horse either. so...:')

I haven't seen the chewable ones but her heart worms are chewable and it's the same act. I think I figured out that
I paid about 1.35 a piece. Mail order looks cheaper but I still have a half bottle left. Maybe I should try one:')

Heh! If you think that's bad, you ought to try to give a cat a pill. You'd think they didn't have any bones in their body with all the ways they can twist around to try to get away from you, and you usually end up looking like you've been trying to give a pill to the food processor...while it was running. ;o)

Hey guys, I was just browsing and came upon this thread posted by a guy who's Swiss friend was taking the Oath of Allegiance and becoming an American citizen and he wanted his fellow FReepers to welcome him.
