The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I think the ones laying on the ground were maybe extras they didn't use. I didn't cross the creek to see if there were any on the other side. i was afraid to go into the water.

Yeah, I think that was why he was a bit jumpy, and the wind didn't help. As soon as I got on him he spun around and tried not to turn to face the direction I wanted hiim to go:)/ Silly horse. Once we got in the trees where the wind wasn't so bad he was fine.

How was brunch? Did you shop?

lol. I didn't get dumped, the branches almost knocked me off. :-) It was actually a fantastic ride. I'm still on a high from it. :-)

Deer like apples. Look up in the trees next time and see if you see any tree stands. But I don't know why they would be tied so close to the creek.

Oh, Ok, well then I'm glad you had a good ride:)

I've had that happen before with tree branches, I've found I can bend down alot farther now with the English saddle. No horn poking me:)

I wondered if who ever put the apples there thought that the narrow trail coming up from the creek was a deer trail down to the water....but I don't know, I'm not a hunter:)

LOL...I don't ride the 10 days of rifle season. I figure with a bow or black powder they have to be close enough to know I'm no deer. At least that's what I've always hoped:)

My son had an intresting, scary horse incident happen Fri. night. Kristy told me about it awhile ago.

Charlie went to a roping with the paint horse. I don't know if you remember me telling you that that horse is a bit squirrely. He was born and spent his first 2 years in a pasture and was never touched. Anyway he's 4 or 5 now I can't remember, but the last few months he has really been doing great. Charlie got 1st last week on him, and 2nd the week before.

Anyway up until this past Fri Charlie had been catching a ride with Joe and the horse was being hauled in a two horse trailer with a divider. This Fri Charlie hauled him in his trailer. It's a two horse but no divider. On the way home, around midnight or so, Charlie felt the trailer do something funny so he stopped and got out to check. He was on a long stretch of road out by his house, no lights. Well the horse had laid down in the trailer even tho he was tied. Charlie opened the door to try to get him up. The horse wouldn't get up so Charlie managed to get him untied, and of course then the horse got up and bolted out of the trailer and down the road he went. I guess Charlie had to chase him for along ways. Thankfully there was no traffic, but it was very dark. The horse, from where Kristy said he got loose to where he finally stopped was probably several miles. He finally stopped because he came to a bridge and didn't want to cross it.

Charlie caught him, had to lead him back to the trailer, and then he wouldn't get in. Charlie finally just tied him to the back of the trailer and drove home slow with the horse walking, probably an other couple of miles.

They checked him out the next day and he was fine not a mark on him. LOL, I'll bet Charlie was scared, mad, frustrated....I'm surprised the horse is still alive, I think I'd have just shot him. It was like 2:30 in the morning before he got home. But to be honest I feel as bad for the horse as I do for Charlie. He was probably scared too.

I may ride tomorrow (if I can get on the horse) I painted all day and I'm hurting. I'm trying not to move my left arm and my back ...I can't get comfortable. Usually I don't feel soreness for a day or two. Strange.

Have a good ride. I have to go help my mother paint her new apartment, and I can't say that I'm looking forward to it, mostly because I'm too darn short.

Good Morning...I hope everyone had a great weekend. I am exhausted. We moved the pc's into the room I had my reloading and other gun stuff in. All that went into the basement. (except for the gun safes). What a job that was. One thing leads to another, and it took me all day.

Hope your basement is dry! Smokeless powder doesn't like the damp.

We have our reloading stuff in a large closet off the guest bedroom.

LOL...I'm assuming you are refering to the kitties:) Kittens are so much fun.

Looks like it will be a nice day there today. I'm going to go run a few errands with Jenny this morning, then I'll ride this afternoon. I hope the wind is not so bad.

So....Has anyone started their plans for Thanksgiving? I just realized last night it's getting close. This will be the year Mack and I are by ourselves. The kids are going to their in-laws. I think I'm going to make all the trimmin's (dressing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie), but neither one of us likes turkey. HMMMMMMM, what to fix. Not real big on ham either, but it's better then turkey.

MT: I've been meaning to ask you how Maureen is doing?

Yes, I do mean the kittens... :~D

I trust the dogs with them now, but we are still crating them at night, so when we open up the crate in the morning they run around like little terrors, full of energy!

For Thanksgiving, we'll be going up to the beach house... their planning is still underway, but we may be doing our actual Thanksgiving thing on Friday :~D
