The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

How is your daughter this morning? I had to work last night until 11. I stopped by What a burger on the way home. Either this place is too cold or I haven't had enough sleep because I'm sipping on my diet coke and there is still a little ice in it!

Much better. Still weak but she finally stopped throwing up about 10 last night. This is a bad bug, the school nurse said the parents and teachers are getting it, too.

Thanks. I'm spending time with my mom, then dinner with family later on.

I thought there was something wrong with your horse this morning... normally eager to get out, she wouldn't leave her stall. I opened it and stood back... she just stands there. I go in behind her and poked her butt, she just pinned her ears at me. I slapped her butt, she just spun around and wouldn't go out the door!

But I finally got her out (barely out, she didn't want to go and stood barely clear enough for me to get the gate shut)

I've been watching her for a couple hours now, and she seems fine... just wanted to stay in and was in foul humor at being forced otherwise.

It's a pretty soggy day... I wouldn't want to be out in it either.

Looks like y'all are one of the few spots in the country getting any rain today. It's absolutely gorgeous here today but it hasn't rained in over 2 months so it's kinda dry. We've got another trail ride planned for tomorrow. Some of the group that I rode with last weekend is coming down to the horse camp in the Forest to camp out but I'll just meet up with them in the morning. It should be another really nice ride. I'm leaving work here in a few minutes to go visit my chiropractor, so I'll catch y'all later...

Yup! Ironically, it's raining up here in the great NorthWest!

I did see the nationwide map.... looked like everyone but us is not only dry, but unseasonably warm today.

Our census is down. Ask momma if she wants some rehab.

Good Morning.

Sun is out, a little breezy, but going to hit close to 60 again today. What a fall this has been in Northeast Ohio! It is like the calm before the storm.

I am going to go into to work for a few hours, then stop and see my recuperating co-worker. You all have a great day.

Good morning :~D

Sure has been quiet in here... no one's doing anything worth talking about with their horses it seems? Is this the doldrums of winter in the saddle club thread? I thought we were the only ones getting bad weather. I think Froginablender, at least, is going riding today :~D

I admit I have not much of interest to add to horse talk, we are just going from meal to meal around here. Yesterday Mark the shoer came and he asked if his apprentice could trim the pony for practice, I said sure :~D

Mark removed Bay's shoes, trimmed his feet and reset his shoes, and started and finished trimming Cyn before his apprentice was done with the pony. I guess speed comes after skill :~D But his job was good, Mark didn't have anything to add when he was inspecting, rasp in hand :~D

I just got back from the stables. I didn't ride though. For some reason it seemed more work than fun today and like I was thinking I had to instead of wanted too. I did give Sarah Lee a bath though. Her feet were so dry I had to wet them to clean so I figured I might as well bath her. Someone put a horse mat over the concrete. Took some talking to get her on it. It shouldn't but when wet it seemed slipperier. Oh well. I did see a horse down today. A young girl tried to step a horse over a rope and he got tangled up. He laid down. They both seem ok. The owner was saying that , it was good that he did that because most would have struggled until they broke something. He laid there until they untied the rope and then got up.

He was on the ground when I saw him. He just laid there though. He didn't move. They untied the rope, patted him and he got to his feet and stood until a worker started walking him around.

Do yall clean your horses nares? I noticed that Sarah Lee had a bunch of dirt in hers and she was doing a lot of snorting. I didn't have anything else so I took off my sock and wet it and cleaned them out. If she had been a cat she would have been purring.

Some horses like their 'nares' washed more than others do. Pony gets real gunky in her udder and enjoys a good wash, Cyn won't let us near there we get her with the hose, from a distance :~D
