This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Their coat change appears to be triggered by the length of the day, moreso than temperature changes. They can be prevented from growing a coat by keeping them under bright lights until summertime sunset time, and they can be encouraged to shed early by putting them under bright lights in the evening in the spring. Some show barns leave the lights on late and turn them on early.
Course, if they do that, they also blanket them.
I wonder if it has something to do with the amount of light too? Okie had a much thicker winter coat in Oklahoma than here. Our hours are pretty much the same but they have more overcast days.
Ok, I'll go take some cowboy pictures. Tell me when I find the one you want.
Yes it's 33 outside.
Good morning. I hope everyone is well and has a great day.
Good Morning! You have a great day too. It's barely daylight out here, and pouring buckets. I need to get my butt off to work, so I'll catch you later!
Interesting story.....

A Horse for Rumsfeld, but, Whoa, There's a Snag

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia, Oct. 22 - Mongolia has 131 soldiers in Iraq, and on Saturday it received an official American statement of gratitude from Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.
Mr. Rumsfeld came to Ulan Bator to deliver that message personally, and he was given a horse.

Good morning all. Haven't been posting much lately since I have been preparing animals and my little ranchito for my trip to Maryland to visit DIL and grandkids. Horses and donkey to pasture and cat and dog to kennel, etc.
Now in Maryland, how good to see TALL trees and rain and lush vegetation! DIL and kids are complaining about rain but I feel like going out and dancing in it. Hope everyone is well this morning.
Good morning! Hope you have a nice trip!
Good morning.... Dan the Saddle Man comes today.
Still looking forward to pictures of Tuffy's new filly!
I think I have read somewhere that the Mongolian horse is descended from the impossible-to-spell wild horse of the steppes. Starts with a P. I think they are handsome little critters and probably stout as a powderhouse.
And Rummy did the gracious thing. We could all use a flashlight now and then.
Thank you!
Please add me to the ping list. Thanks.
Certainly! And welcome!
I don't mean to make this complicated, but would you just like to be pinged to horse-related articles, or would you like to be pinged also to this daily thread every morning?
This thread is for horsey freepers to chat about our horses and such, and "MissTargets" pings the group every morning so you can find it.
Lets just do the horse-related articles.
Thanks.
Fair enough :~D

I will! I'll have the camera in my pocket... I'll see if I can swing any pictures, even just about the saddle placement. After all, there's a good reason... so I can look back and compare later!
Hey you know, I use to feel odd taking pictures of stuff, now I just tell everyone exactly why I'm taking them. "I have some ladies that I visit with on line and we like to see pictures of everything we do with our horses:)? At the CTR several times while taking pictures I said, "I'm taking a picture here for my ladies:)"
It actually generated some conversation, and I thought we were going to get some new posters here. Funny, freeping is a hard habit to get started, but an even harder one to break:)

Heh - I fessed up to my farrier the last time, too, when I took pictures of him. I said... I want to show my online friends about your pad cutter and stuff! :~D
