This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good luck in getting your dream ranch, color. Sometimes a condo looks very good to me. I only have 10 aces, 5 in woods, but it gets to be a lot of work. I would probably go crazy thou, living in a condo.
Oh good, have fun. I have not ridden in a while either. There used to be quite a few people in the neighbor that rode, but not anymore. I really don't want to take the Arabian out by myself. She was just broke this spring, and is still a little green. Once the 2 year old gets broke, my daughter and I will ride together. We are planning on taking her maybe next month.
Did you happen to see Madonna on Letterman? I saw a preview that she was going to ride a horse. I woke up and clicked on the TV and it was an ending shot of her and Dave riding.
We're burning stick pile this morning... (I saw ~we~ though I was doing a lot of just sitting and watching ;~D)
And of course, as long as I've got the camera...
This was ~almost~ a great picture, cool lighting... bad focus.
What a pretty picture of them. I love the red halter. I left Sarah Lee's in another car the other day. My husband came out and looked at the halter I had on her and said "what the hell is this?" I told him it was her Sunday clothes. He replied,"but it's pink!" It looks so good on her but she gets it dirty so I keep it for special occasions.
That smoke blowing towards your new neighbors?
I'm looking for my dream place too. If I can get all my work done I'm going to go check out a few next weekend.
Heh.... no :~D
It's tough with the delay and slow shutter on digitals... if they are in the sun, it's better, but low light, forgetit :~D
I love your traditional barn. Very very pretty.
Sounds like fun. The arab is pretty! I'm disappointed that I couldn't ride today because I haven't been in a while and really need to get to the barn. It means that I'm going to pay for it tomorrow. But at the same time I'm not disappointed because it's raw and wet and cold out! I was willing to brave it, but my trainer wasn't. :-p I really need my own horse again.
Thank you. Next year's project will be to paint it. This year was the house.
I already have 50 acres in Southern Utah, between Bryce Canyon National Park and Zions National Park. It is surrounded by thousands of acres of forest service...so no neighbors. The problem is making a living. I live 250 miles from there, in Salt Lake City, so first I have to win the lottery, or retire, or become famous (whichever comes first.)
I'll have to have enough money to feed the horses. 50 acres in that country with little water, and at an elevation of 7000 ft, doesn't grow much feed.
That sounds nice. You will have to post some pics. My husband and I have decided to weekend commute. There isn't much around here. We are looking north, no more than a 3 hr drive. Some place that we can load up the horses and go. We have a lake lot that yuppies have surrounded and are thinking about selling so we can fix ours up like we want. We have 2 requirements. A couple of pecan trees and water access. I have found a few that I like that have river frontage but we just have to be careful to be up high enough not to flood.
I hope you find the perfect place. Yuppies can be a pain...it's totally understandable why you'd want somewhere else. So what's this about pecan trees? What IS a pecan...lol.
"How was the movie "Dreamer"?"
It was great! A very nice family movie. I haven't seen many good ratings from the critics. I guess there isn't enough swearing and violence in it for them. But I would take the whole family. It is very good.
"Did you happen to see Madonna on Letterman? I saw a preview that she was going to ride a horse. I woke up and clicked on the TV and it was an ending shot of her and Dave riding."
I didn't watch that. Does dave even know how to ride? LOL
Bo Derek bought an expensive dressage horse one time and just about ruined it. she had no idea what she was doing and as a result the horse moved really badly. I remember she appeared in some horse shows with it. Not to actually participate in a show, but just one of those "Here is Bo Derek and her horse!" type things, and you could tell the horse was soooo confused.
Don't get our pecan mixed up with our pe-cans though. One is a tree and one is for long trips:')
