The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I don't sound redneck when I type then? LOL : D
There are some beautiful tools, and carnival glass, some really pretty china too! We will be keeping any family items but the junk is up for grabs. When we finally sell this place and buy a farm, we are going to have to have a huge yard sale as we will be going from 4000 sq ft to about 1500!! LOL
I have found some nice places with great barns and beautiful acerage. We are excited! We are heading back to KY in the middle of Nov. I dont know whether I will have my laptop or not though as I have lent it to someone who needed it for work.
The kids are getting excited about the trip already and we are staying at www.tomthallcabin.com where we know the beds are SO comfortable and the kitchen is fully equipped. I still love to cook when we are away and it is so disapointing if you stay somewhere where the kitchen doesn't have enough to cook a full meal!

You know what, State Line Tack has converters, I think, where you can convert the billets on an english saddle to western and vice versa. The pad I was using when you and I went riding together uses english girths, the new one is only set up for western. I prefer an english girth so I'm going to surf for a converter.

There you are!
I'm so sorry about the kitten. I've often wondered why I've never found one of my small critters floating in the pool.

Good idea. Check on Ebay too. I bought a very nice set of leather draw reins with buckle ends from Green River Tack last year that were a lot cheaper than even State Line Tack. The same product was around $60 but I got them for $25. I also bought a nice leather lunging surcingle at a huge discount from them too.
I was surprised at the quality of those draw reins considering the difference in price. They were the exact same product.

Going from english to western. I'm still looking for western to english.

Western to english but I don't think it will work. The Dee rings on the pad might not be wide enough. You got a great deal on the draw reins. I'll check ebay for the stuff I need before ordering from State Line or Cashel company (the converter maker)

...we found one of our kittens in the pool this morning : ( My in-law's have lost a cat and a dog that way and I just hate it. It just scares me to death when I see them leaning way over drinking out of the pool, but there's no way to keep them out. They can fit through the ornamental iron gates.

I don't think I've ever seen one of those Well I'll be dawg! Now I have. ;o)
To: FrogInABlender; tuffydoodle
Our cats fit through the decking fence too. They walk around the pool and drink the water. They have water available but like the pool. It's not the first kitten we have lost : (
I was just outside and Smokey was in the roundpen laying down SO STILL! My heart just stopped and it wasn't until I stroked him that he moved....silly horse neearly scared me half to death. He then sat up and I swear he smiled at me! LOL Goofy horse. I had left his bucket in the roundpen yesterday evening and he went over, picked it up and handed it to me! LOL What am I going to do with my horses that should be clowns in the circus!

Well, I'm finished with at least setting up my panels how I want. And I also knocked down and piled up some dead trees that were out in the pasture. I'll burn them later when we've had some rain. I'd like to scrape the pasture, but I'm afraid if I do that at this time of year I will land up with a mud hole over the whole pasture this winter, so I'm just going to have to deal with the pasture looking really bad because of all the rag weed growing out there.
Here's what it looked like when I started this morning.

Here it is finished except for the roping shoot, Charlie will take that home with him. I didn't realize till I got in here and looked at my pictures that I missed the far side of the arena, it is all panels down to even with the shoot. I had orginally planned on them not being there but I had enough to do that side so I put the ones that were at the back down that side. I'm too tired to go out and take another picture, you'll see it some other time when I takeing them:)

When I shortened the arena I had originally set them up like this, but that line of panels was pretty wobblely because it was such a long straight stretch.

So today I changed it to this to make it more sturdy, worked great.

This is looking from the arena gate over to Harley's run.
Well I've previewed this post 3 times and re done it for that picture of the panels that were to long and straight and it won't show up. I don't know why. But I didn't have the little alley way in there, it was just a straight line of panels with the gate inthere.

Wow, you've really moved things around. I can't picture your place at all any more, and I used to be able to! So what are you going to do with the ground that used to be arena? Seed it with grass? Or keep it dirt so you can still use it as an arena, just not enclosed?

Looks like you have been really busy! We are going to buy hay this week, as we are getting some cooler nights, cooler mornings which will stop the grass from growing.
Just as well, as I kill the lawn mower every time I use it!
I noticed that Smokey has a small sore on his back today from flies. Ouch! I must have missed that spot when I sprayed him. : (
Normally flies are not a problem now, but they seem to be hanging on this year. We had a huge flock of cow birds until recently.........I wish they would come back! Cow birds = no bugs/ flies!! : )
