Why can't they just cross on over and leave us alone?(except the relatives of course)

I was wondering with a chance to be with Our Lord why do they continue to stay here?

I think the ones that haven't received Christ before death essentially get stuck, except those that have flat out refused Him. Those that have received Him do go to heaven, but I believe they are allowed to come to minister to us as needed. The ones that are stuck I think are allowed until the end and judgement to still turn to Him. (This is the short explanation.) I wasn't raised Catholic with teaching of purgatory, but have gleaned this from reading other's experiences.

Just a thought but maybe they have crossed over but Our Lord is much closer to us here than we think.
