No Pete Carroll.
He knew how to carve long after he retired, too.
Sammy Baugh is an excellent suggestion. Otto Graham to me is a better selection than Marino. This list is very present oriented as these lists often are.
How about New York Giants Danny LLoyd LB #54. OK I'm biased cause he's my brother
I think Payton deserves that #2 spot. Sayers may have been a more flashy, spectacular runner -- but Payton was far more durable over time and was really the "full package" when it came to running backs. Great runner, great pass-receiver, great blocker (and loved doing it, too), and even a good passer (he threw 8 TD passes in his career).
Albert Lewis of the Kansas City Chiefs was the best defensive back I ever saw. He was tall for a cornerback, but could still run with any wide receiver in the league. He was a great special teams player, too -- specialized in blocking punts, in fact.
MONTANA #1
Bobby Layne, the last decent QB the Lions have had.
Larry Little
Yep. You did notice my Gator bias didn't you?
Oh yeah, how could I forget his name? Wasn't he the coach during the Jets' "just lose, baby" era?
Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson.
Not THAT good. He can't possibly have the stats for this ranking.
I would consider Gator Jack Youngblood one of the best defensive linemen as well.
I can understand why LT was left off, even though I'm a Giants fan. His play at the linebacker position really revolutionized the game of football, but he was such a great athlete and a great pass-rusher that it was easy to overlook the fact that he was largely a one-dimensional player (he was average at best in pass coverage, for example).
Barry Sanders WAS the Lions in the 90s...
QBs:
Gagliano
Peete
Kramer
Krieg
Mitchell
Batch
throw in Ware, Magic-man, etc...
teams keyed on Sanders....
Every year is a "just lose, baby" era. That is why I love them
John Lynch. BEST Safety Ever!
