I was doing a routine search about the life of Rush Limbaugh. I ran into some wild accusations. I do not want to repeat them. I was shocked because the statements were new to me.
I am wondering if others have run into these and what they think. Here is one link: http://pssht.com/biography/rush_limbaugh.html
I am a paleo-conservative, not a DU troll. I have read FR for almost 7 years and post often.
Gee Thanks
I got my doubts about this post , but this is worth repeating:
Obviously teasing, but it is nice to see someone posting from the "Senior citizen class" of Free Republic.
a cya disclaimer intended to conceal true intention?
Isn't rush supposed to be dead before the homosexuals try and claim the "lifestyle."
sleeper troll?
Its ok ...but the truth hurts...my New Years resolutions these days are to keep breathing
Actually genius. Somewhere here during the election there was a post of IQ's and he is up there.
Actually spanalot, there is a history of good posts. If anything, I was simply trying to verify that this was not a DU troll.
Your support is recognized and respected, and hopefully, I have not insulted anyone.
I can tell you who trixie is, can you tell me who LittleLulu is?
Don't tell anyone where my gold is!
Most of the posts above are hysterical ad hominem attacks, based on the assumption that anyone asking about this would be from the Dark Side.
It's funny that people who cannot write good English also make up definitions for "paleo." Try - ancient, as opposed to neo, for new.
I think Rush Limbaugh is pretty good. I often listen to him. He definitely saved AM radio and paved the way for many other conservative hosts. He is usually right about the issues. Obviously there is a multi-pronged effort to get at him and others.
The site in question poses as a parody site but is not that at all. The best way to refute false claims is with the facts.
I thought Rush said he never went to college.
Says Rush draft-dodged the Vietnam war. He was under age during most of it, having been born in 1951.The rest is exaggerated or lies. And who wants to accept the writer's characterization of Limbaugh fans or conservatives? And what rise of Al Franken?
Same reason the tabloids can. The courts have basically said that for "public figures" (i.e. people who are famous), the only way libel can be found is if there is a "reckless disregard for the truth" that significantly damage the reputation of the person involved.
The plaintiff would have to proof that the accuser knew the allegations were false, did so anyway out of some personal hate and that the accused suffered damages as a result of the libel.
Most celebrities also know that the cost of fighting such rumors/charges in court only lend credibility to the rumors/charges ("why else would they fight them?" some argue) and broaden the circulation of the rumors/charges more than the original accusation circulated.
Let's say, for example, that it is published that a white southern congressman uses the N-word frequently in public. It's a total lie but if the congressman chooses to sue, then it becomes a "news item" and now the charge gains wider circulation and credibility than if the congressman just ignores the charge or calls it "baseless" if someone asks.
Their attornies and handlers will usually tell them it isn't worth fighting the lie in court and there is always the chance that a jury won't be pursuaded that the publisher printed the lie "with malice aforethought".
Think of all the awful things said about the president. That he wants black people to die, that he knowingly lied about WMDs, etc. because they know Bush can't really fight the charges. Your First Amendment at work, folks.
I heard he doesn't care about black quarterbacks! LOL!
IBTZ... bye troll
He may be a troll or he may just be dumb as a post.
(I know that's redundant.)
He's a gem in a box of shiny rocks.
