What is the price of gas where you live now? (vanity)

Just curious what everybody else is having to pay for gas now. Prices just shot up to $3.00/gallon for the low grade. Yikes!

What does "full serve" mean?

I here a guy on the radio yesterday saying he has stock in oil. He said, "I finds himself in a weird situation. On one hand I like the prices go up because my stocks are making money but on the other hand I have to pay out the nose every time I go somewhere."

I wonder if the increased profit from the stock is enough to make up for the rise in gas prices. I went out this morning and the prices were over the $3 a gallon mark. My last fillup was several days ago -–at about $2.80. If he wants to break even he better have a lot of stock.

Last night at 11:55pm I paid $3.19 to fill up: $62.25 for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Another gas station had 87 oct at $3.39.

I agree. I think price gouging is going on like crazy. The huge swing in prices just locally proves that to me.

Yeah I don't know.

I guess if he wants to maximize his stock profit he has to not drive much as well.

Where do you live? They have no full serve gas stations?

You know, some guy named "bob" wearing greasy work shirt and pants, comes out, pumps the gasoline, washes your windows, checks the air in the tires, checks the fluid levels..you know..full serve station rather than self-serve!

Sorry but we have some guy named Sahib who sits inside a building behind a bullet proof glass. We haven't had or seen a "bob" in over 20 years. Are you telling me that there are places in the US that still have that service? Where?

Yes indeed, there is!

There are still two full serve stations in Odessa, Texas. Complete with mechanics on duty and (can we still say "gas jockey?) the ole boy who just pumps gas and cleans your windshield.

Nobody named "Bob" works at either, but I can't give names for privacy's sake. I do frequent both stations, depending on which way I'm going when I decide to buy gasoline, both stations have been in business since the late 70's, both owned by two of the nicest "good ole boys" you'd ever want to know!

My daughter had a Geo Tracker – nothing but trouble for her, but it could have been the way she drove. She always referred to it as a “Jeep”, and was used to driving my Camaro.

The Tracker I have has 105,000 miles and it is beginning to have to have some problems, just paid $450 to get the water pump replaced, but it is still cheaper to fix it then it is the buy a new car and make payments.

We also have a 1999 Chevy Blazer that my wife drives. Bad gas mileage but she doesn't have to drive far. The Tracker has been mechanically speaking better then the Blazer. Blazer needs ball joints, the heater doesn't work and the radiator is starting to go.

In 1983 I had a 1968 VW wagon, it looked like Sh#t but it ran and ran and never had to put a dime into it for repairs.

I was planning to buy a new car next year but with the price of gasoline and natural gas I guess I won't be.

Loved the old Bugs! Darn near bullet proof, easy to maintain and easy on gas. The biggest mistake Volkswagen ever made was reintroducing the “new” bug – similar styling, but few people bought the old ones because of the “great” styling. The new ones appeared on the used car lots within a month of their introduction.
