I want to give a shout out to the power crews who are working in S. Mississippi!! It is one week since this country's worst natural disaster, and my sister Joanne got power on at her house in Gautier (just west of Pascagoula) this evening! It was a crew from South Carolina working down there that got them hooked back up. We talked to SirKit's brother in Gulfport earlier this evening, and he said that power crews from Michigan and Texas had gotten the power restored just up the street from him, and he expects his power to be back on tomorrow. The Bishop has asked him to get the Parish school going next week so the kids will have some normalcy in their lives. It would also give the parents a few hours during the day to do the things they need to do to get their lives back to normal like insurance claims, and trips for gas, food and water. SirKit's brother said that there was some roof damage to the Parish buildings, but that they were usable.

We talked to our Pastor this morning about 'adopting' George's Parish so that the kids in the school here can be pen-pals with the kids down there, and our Parish can help them monetarily. Most of those families will not have any income for a while, so they won't be able to pay tuition. Fr. Mike said it sounded like a great idea, so I sent him George's phone numbers so they can talk about it.
