Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Good Morning! Your're up early, or I'm up late!! OB had a really good book to read and fell asleep on the couch. I've ground the coffee beans and fed the animals and he's still asleep. He's shifted positions so I think he's still among the living...

Miss Cat insists on weekday hours for the weekend....she wanted breakfast.
I need to fix breakfast and make more coffee.

Jeanne and I are fine, as I'm sure you gathered, since the storm, while real, was minor in terms of hurricanes the day it hit this area.
Elec is now back, plus the fax, but not the regular phone. There're huge numbers of homes to restore power to, but I think it'll be easier than it could, since the infrastructure is not too badly wrecked.
We live on a rocky ridge, insofar as Miami has such things, so flooding was not a problem, even with the 15 inches of rain. Personal damage, hardly any, lots and lots of small branches down, quite a cleanup and less shade, but that'll soon be restored.
Many trees down in the neighborhood, and quite a bit of flooding in low lying areas, but that's about it.
Prayers for the people on the Gulf coast.

Morning, Sam! Glad to hear that you survived with no real damage.
They're waiting for you to check in on the hurricane thead. :)

Guys, the weekend wedding gift is, I'm sure, well meant. But somewhat manipulative, IMO, which is not that cool for a gift. In fact, it begs the question of who is this gift really for? Good luck in whatever you decide, though :-D

If it hits at anywhere *near* the current strength, it could at least rival Camille, from what I can tell.
Definitely praying for everyone in the way - I can't even fathom this.

I can't fathom evacuating a whole city the size of New Orleans. The logistics of getting the people out, who can't leave on their own is daunting.

Fox was just saying they're telling people to get to the third floor of a building. That may get them thru the storm, but what about the aftermath?
I usually have mixed feelings about that, and in ~most~ cases if I lived in the direct path, I'd ride it out. But in this case, the flood damage and the length of time it may take even for the waters to recede are just going to be a nightmare.

That's the thing.... the water won't go away - one report said areas may be flooded weeks or months.... not enough pumps to pump it... and no where to pump it to.

I can't fathom evacuating a whole city the size of New Orleans. The logistics of getting the people out, who can't leave on their own is daunting. No kidding. It'd be hard enough if everyone was ready and just heading out in an orderly fashion...but I imagine in a city that big, there are plenty of people without transportation...not to mention hospitals and nursing homes and other places full of people with special needs and who can't just be packed in busses to truck out.
I can't remember anything even close to an evacuation on this scale happening in my lifetime. It's just mind boggling.
