Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Well, the whole truck is near stock, and it's an 87. We were at Dad's mechanic last week having the oil changed (it's a requirement of the gift that we have the oil changed and all work done at that mechanic) and dad was asking him what all we might want to do as far as tune up. He said... well, these are the original spark plug wires, look, they've got the factory dates on them. only the original wires have dates on them.
And they're clean. And they're working just fine.
So if anyone can make a battery last 12 years, it's my dad.... though I'm surprised he did... He'd be just as likely to replace it every year just to be safe. That one could have gone either way.

No thanks.
I'd rather the skunks stay wherever it is they're staying.

Some people apparantly have them as pets:
"SPANKING OR HITTING A BIG NO NO!
Discipline should be the tone and volume of your voice. Never use your hands, rolled newspaper, fly swatter, etc, because, even though skunks don't see very well, their ears and nose work extremely well and their intellect tells them that YOU were at the end of that thing that just hit them. Remember, skunks never forget, nor do they forgive! You have never before dealt with an animal as smart as a skunk, unless you have had two year olds in your life.

True. And I could stop in Colorado halfway there.
~sigh~ Don't I wish, sis.
Not enough time or money to do it though. But one day.

Sounds like a recipe for Road Paste to me. :-P Well... I don't get the opportunity very often. I'm a pretty conservative driver, for the most part, and especially in traffic. I don't compete with mass, and I don't tempt fate in places that are known high-volume roads for state troopers. And I don't race in stupid places like the kids in their cute little 4-banger rice rockets.
But get me out on the Peninsula on 101 north out of Gray's Harbor... and that's another story. Ten miles in a straight line with no traffic... in four minutes. It's breathtaking. :-)
It was especially fun because I found that there is a really cool aerodynamic thing that happens at about 95 to 105. The whole car "kushes" down about two inches and presses into the road at speed. It's remarkable. Control is actually improved at 110 and above... better than at 90 or so.
I don't suppose any of that would impress the trooper at the end of the road, though... :-)

But I will never, never *ever* rent a car in Boston again. Not ever. Not unless I can rent an up-armored Humvee with a .50 in a turret mount up top. ...and only if Hertz would throw in the cost of ammo. :-)
There's a reason they call 'em M*ssholes out there. They hunt in packs. :-)Weenie! ;o)
Seriesly, I don't blame you one bit. It's not only the drivers, the towns just don't seem to believe in street signs. If you land up somewhere, and you have no idea where you are, a map will do you NO GOOD because half the streets are not marked! I wanna GPS navigation system for my car. A LARGE PRINT version.
