The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh... yah... I usually fly into Logan. But now I just get a taxi, or a shuttle, out to the hotel in Natick. Luckily, the hotel is walking distance to the office... way less stress and cheaper than renting a car, as it turns out.

Now we know why the chicken crossed the road....

So the possum would follow and get itself kilt!

I hit a squirrel when I was coming back from one of the recent really-bad interviews. (There have been two really bad ones...) I think he died instantly. Kinda hope so, even for a squirrel.

Turkeys?! Holy smokes. You all don't mess around with your road kill.

I've seen raccoons, but none of the others you mentioned.

Unless decomposition ruled out their identification.

I think the majority of animals back home are killed by idiots driving too fast for the dark and being out on dirt roads. There are always animals around, and you have to keep your eyes open.

People are also routinely injured by hitting deer and moose...but of course those aren't left lying around. I've had to slam on the brakes a few times 'cause of deer, but I try to be careful. And I've been either lucky or smart. ;-)

Don't EVER feel sorry for a squirrel! Don't you remember the Geico commercial?

I've not had TV...don't know that I ever saw it.

Fellowship playin' in the background. I'm kinda sorta watching...;-)

You're trying to adjust to a new vehicle at the same time you're trying to figure out where the heck you are.

Heh... ain't it the truth. That may have been the time I got saddled with a car (I won't say what it was in case somebody here has one, and I don't wanna offend anybody...) that was absolutely the *worst* ergonomic design I've ever struggled to drive. Horrible... to the point of almost being undriveable.

Everything was in the least likely place you'd look for it. Turn signals, lights, wipers, seat adjustments... everything. Not only un-intuitive... counterintuitive... like they *intended* for the car to be hard to drive.

You wouldn't ~think~ that the intermittent wipers were controlled by moving the seat backward and forward... but it was almost that bad. :-)

Intead of a left turn signal, you change the radio volume. Instead of headlights, you get washer fluid. On and on and on...

It was a car ~by~ M@ssholes, ~for~ M@ssholes. :-)

I'll check it out in a bit - after The Movie.

Fireworks! And music! And pints!

Bilbo throws a great party.

I haven't hit any deer... but I've been in a pickup truck that was hit by a herd of Elk once. Kinda funny, that.

The pickup wasn't moving. The Elk ran into us. ~not~ the smartest critters out there, those Elk.

I *liked* that commercial. :-)

I think some animals do that stuff on purpose. Especially crows. Watch 'em... they know what they're doing... :-)

Duct tape just doesn't hold like it used to. ;-)

Do you have any duct tape you can spare? My head is about to explode.

I swear, did the President cut some sort of mental health funding and turn all the loonies out on the street again (like they accused Reagan of doing?).

This place is insane.
