I was in a werkshop all day...more werkshop tomorrow. *Sigh*
And next week.....Diversity training! Whoopee!
I wanna watch TAR...
Thanks, Ruthy!
Heh...I'm almost as nervous about getting it as I am about *not* getting it. Hope I remember *how* to work...especially at a job I've never done before. Last few jobs have just been a matter of learning local policies, more or less...not entirely new procedures.
Evenin' folkses... :-)

Well... I'm shoppin' vehicles in earnest now. Still not sure, zactly. Something SUVish, 4x4 for winter weather, able to carry some people and some stuff. Must not look stupid with a canoe on top.
On the big side is the Grand Cherokee. In the middle and cheaper side is the Ford Escape. On the smaller side but still real nice is the Subaru Forester. Stopped and looked at the Forester again tonight, to sit in the 06. Really leaning toward that. It's really well thought out. Everywhere you look there's something that makes you say "Hey... that's good thinking...".

Don't wanna spend uberdollars. Just want something good.
[sip]
hehehe...
I just got my girls settled in. It almost always takes more than one try to get them to stay there though.
Ain't there sumthin' you can take fer that?
*groan*
Don't worry, Rosie. It'll all come back to you.
Besides, once you're in the job and stability settles in, you can afford cable so you and Jen can watch TAR! :-D
Not that I'm a car expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I've known people who have owned all three (not people that have owned all three vehicles, but people who have owned one or the other. ;-)
Escape, the early ones at least, weren't reliable, from what I've heard. And I dunno that the Cherokees were much better.
On the other hand, Subarus are THE car to have back home, where the roads are realllllly rough on vehicles. They do extremely well in slippery conditions, and designed very intuitively (as you noticed), get good gas milage, and last a long time. Older Subarus had trouble with rust in salty conditions, but they appear to have solved that.
But then, *I* want a Forester, so I'm a bit biased, I confess.
Yeah....can't I just extract my stinky muck samples next week?
Ok, so that was a really one-sided review of a vehicle I've never driven. Kinda sad. ;-)
On recent travel trips, I've rented a Toyota Highlander, a 4Runner, and a Nissan Xterra. The Highlander drives like a station wagon. It's a soccer-mom mobile. I ran the 4Runner around in some decent mud. It was vey fun. It drives more like a truck. Didn't do anything too interesting with the Xterra, but it gave me a warm fuzzy. I'd place it between the 4runner and the highlander.
Mostly I'm worried about the new stuff. I mean...I'd basically be in a sort of helpdesk position. And not a computer related helpdesk, where I'd kinda know what I was doing. I'd have to learn a lot before I'd be able to really do it.
AND I'd be responsible for supervising a number of student workers. The only supervisory experience I have is that of bossing around younger siblings. ;-) Like I said, it'd be good experience...but I'm afraid of leadership.
Mmm...stability.
Yah... and the other fun thing about Subaru's is that they're overwhelmingly driven by liberals. Just think of the sheer fun of putting a BUSH/Cheney sticker on one! :-)
Big'ol loves doing that to his Saab.
Hi!
You already know which vehicle I think you should get.
4-Runner, baby!
The Forester's nice though. I've seen a few on the road lately. Not much ground clearance, but I don't think that's a big factor for you. ;-D
The Forester seems to be the near-replacement for the Volvo wagon as the liberal vehicle of choice. ;-) But *everyone* drives the Legacy wagons back home. They're almost as common as pick-ups and such. Just handle gravel and slush better than almost anything else.
I want a black Forester that I paste with conservative stickers...
How intolerant of you!
The thing that would be perfect was the old regular Jeep Cherokee Sport. Just like the one that I totalled back in January. [sigh]
I'm pretty much sold on the Forester. I'm just concerned that I might wish I'd gotten something a little bigger.
[sip] But they're really good cars.
They also have that little 4cyl boxer, turbocharged, that they get 230hp out of... holey moley... that's not what the Mustang has, but it is disgustingly close. It's a station wagon that does the 1/4mi in the thirteens. Yikes. :-)
