The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Let's see... a couple collections of Nebula winning stories from the 60s, a "Lensman" book by Doc Smith, "Exiles Trilogy" by Bova, "Mind Thing" by Fredric Brown, "Demolished Man" by Alfred Bester, a couple more recent ones... it's dark, can't find 'em all. Me happy.

Got an RPG started at geek-night. I have not seriously role played so this is fun, our GM isn't a good talker but he spent time thinking about it. It's a system based on anime stereotypes, perfect for our little group - we've got a mech pilot, a gun nut, and I get to be an ace pilot. Heh. Lots of fun.

ooo! let me try...
You Should Get a JD (Juris Doctor)
You're logical, driven, and ruthless.
You'd make a mighty fine lawyer.
What Advanced Degree Should You Get?

Meh. Doubt it. But, all right. I can afford $36.72 for tuition and fees for the next 8 years...where's the school at :)

Morning EGE, Overtaxed. Sip. LSA and I took the advanced degree quiz. Hmm.

We both got Doctor (aka brilliant and compasionate) and we didn't answer a single question the same..Hmmm. Sip.

I'd buy it for LSA who fits both catagories but me? hmm. Sip.

Work's been crazy - got lots of field work schedule, some pretty cool areas. They are trying to clone me and my partner so we can get it done. Now that's a scary thought.

Donald Pleasence is sooo good at playing seemingly-gentle-but-actually-insane-and-dangerous characters.

...and I never would have thought of Raquel Welch as a technician.

Interesting! I've had my eye on an MBA that specializes in systems research. But the quiz sez:

You Should Get a PhD in Science (like chemistry, math, or engineering)
You're both smart and innovative when it comes to ideas.
Maybe you'll find a cure for cancer - or develop the latest underground drug.

Awwww:

Your Inner Child Is Surprised
You see many things through the eyes of a child.
Meaning, you're rarely cynical or jaded.
You cherish all of the details in life.
Easily fascinated, you enjoy experiencing new things.
How Is Your Inner Child?

Don't know about the cynical part. Certain aspects of FR brings it out in me.

Heh....I came up doctor too. In the "previous life" one I came up an Arrogant Assasin from Korea who got hung and a Greasy Cannibal from Japan who died from natural causes. Thought I'd quit while I was ahead.

Oh yeah!

Your Summer Ride is a Jeep
For you, summer is all about having no responsibilities.
You prefer to hang with old friends - and make some new ones.
