The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh, and the swinger must keep his/her feet up. A bent knee will result in a foot boo-boo.

Their mammas would thank you :)

The girl is my cousin's fiancee's, the boy is our mutual friends'.

All 5 (3 of one family, 2 of t'other) call me "Uncle David". It's nice.

What would be really cute is those two falling for each other in about 15 years :) At the reception Uncle David would dig out this among other pics and embarrass them frightfully :)

What did you do today? Gone to Alcatraz yet?

Didn't get to Alcatraz...

Today I started by walking down to where they'd closed the street by the hotel, by the lake, for some sort of community music fair sort of thing. So I went over to check it out. Turns out it was a big annual thing put on by the local high school to raise money for the music programs. Quite an event. In fact it was really neat... since it had lots of high school band music (which has changed surprisingly little in 25 years). They also had canoe races... and lots of food vendors... and they had a beer garden.

So there was that. :-)

They had the Stanford Cheerleaders.

So there was that, too.

Then I drove around Palo Alto for a while, just sightseeing. Stopped to buy some new movies to watch this week. But I finally ended up at the Hiller Aviation Museum. This ended up being about a three hour stop.

I'd seen this place driving back and forth to work, and never had stopped in. Finally decided to check the place out. WOW... what I figured for a small low-budget operation... was not. It was *really* cool, and up to Smithsonian level of quality and variety of displays.

I took a bunch of pics, but it is probly easiest just to post the web site:

http://www.hiller.org

There's planes and helicopters in there that I've never heard of before. Anybody ever heard of a "condor" spyplane before? I hadn't. It was the predecessor to the Global Hawk.

That was pretty much my day.

Yeah, but remember that one that capsized at the dock in Albany last year?

OK... so ~most~ ships in harbor are safe. Except for that one. :-)
