The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

OK, as long as no one brings a pig... ;~D

The article did mention they caught someone trying to smuggle a cow across the river. They didn't mention in which direction, or why.

Hmmm... cow smuggling. Maybe that's more lucrative than llama smuggling. I hope I haven't wasted all my time with these llamas when cows would have been more profitable.

I learned it from the underpants gnomes:

Step 1: smuggle llamas.
Step 2:
Step 3: Profit!

Hmm...

No, no, no. It's Raising Llamas for Fun and Profit. Not smuggling them. Silly. Llama!

Dang. Can I interest you in some llamas? They make fine pets. You got yer watch-llamas... yer seeing-eye llamas... yer bird-llamas... pretty much anything. Not so good for shark bait though. Don't approve of that.

Big special. One week only. :-)

Badgers don't hike so well with the backpacks on. Sure, they're fiesty enough when unladen. But strap on seventy pounds of camping gear and they just sorta lay there, feet all splayed out.

Llamas on the other hand... they live for that sort of stuff. They're born to carry stuff. Even before coffee in the morning they'll look at ya with that "got sumpthin' ya want carried?" sorta look.

Good morning everyone...

The west coast is up before the east coast this morning!

I have a meeting early this morning about an hour away. Up having some coffee now.

Quick but serious update at the Hobbit Hole knife blog this morning. There will be a more involved update from him shortly, but Winmag needs our help, and he needs it now. His bills are threatening to consume him.

Important Notice

We regret to announce that due to financial constraints, we are discontinuing all sheath knives. We know they are extremely popular and very useful, but we simply cannot afford them any more. Once our finances have stabilized, we hope to be able to resume sending our standard Hobbit Hole folder, currently the Camillus 904s. Please consider donating to help us resume this project.

As he wrote his note this morning to us, asking ecurbh to place that announcement at the top of the page, his heart was very heavy. He is sitting on at least 50 requests for those knives.

I'll send some money just as soon as I have some, Hair.

Rick should not bear this burden alone.
