New verse:

Just changed the background pictures on all my computers. *drums fingers on desk*
I'm kinda sorta following the Rita live thread.
And trying not to think about the chocolate in my top desk drawer.
And listening to LOUD complaining from Tam the Siamese Brat.
Maybe I can work on my grocery list.
Mmmmkay. I'm bailing.
Yeah. Dark chocolate, too.
It called me. I finally answered. Mmmmm.
Oh well. I still have more. Every time I'm at one of the natural foods stores I pick up a bar or two of whatever's cheapest...or on sale...or looks good that day. Usually I'm good about only eating a little a day and therefore I've got a good sized stash at this point. But the last few days have kinda been exceptions.
My favorite right now is probably either Scharffen Berger or a brand that I THINK is called Chocolove. Hard to tell from the packaging. In any case, it's dandy. So's Lindt, for that matter.
I'm still struggling with POV. I'm leaning toward split-POV, between the overly-cheerful female protagonist (she's a cat burglar) and the reticient, wants-to-be-hardboiled detective (he's not really after her, they sort of have to team up). Because then the detective and the heroine's little sister could be kidnapped together and there's all sort of fun to be had with that dynamic.
I'm following the Rita thread too.
Lord have mercy.
I just had a quart-sized fruit jar of iced coffee with about a half inch of chocolate syrup in it and cream.
It was sin no matter how I looked at it...but it were shore good!
Maybe it'll shift or hit something that will slow it. Here's hoping. There's still some time.
And at least Texans seem to be actually doing something about it.
*drool*
Unghh...that sounds really good!
I think I need to make some coffee. Still early enough for it...
Looks like it's going over your house.
I have a question...do you know?
I have a gas water heater...now if the electricity goes out, the gas pilot light might still be going, but the ignitor to heat the water won't work, right? So it will eventually go cold?
I'm pretty sure a power outage is our biggest concern here.
Yep.
I'm really glad you mentioned freezing all that water and filling up with gas. Steve is taking Matthew to see Star Wars for the umpteenth time and I'm dropping Joshua off at Awanas and heading to Walmart to get some supplies. Some water, some easy to prepare skillet meals and batteries.
I'm concerned about tornadoes, but not overly...most likely just loosing power.
Good afternoon all....
Been runnin' errands off and on, and complaining about bicycles on the rest of the forum.
We have our 55 gallon water tank sitting empty right now... we keep forgetting to refill it. I hope we do that before winter sets in.... that's when we lose power.
I have a camp shower, if indeed the water heater quits heating when the power goes out as I suspect it does...
Camp showers are pretty nice...hang 'em in the sun and they get downright hot.
It's still in the mid-nineties here, btw.
Yeah, we gotta do that, honey!
I dunno. But I'm sure someone here does.
I made coffee and added some of the sugarfree caramel syrup I got a bit ago, plus cream and cocoa powder. Don't think it's quite as good as your iced coffee, but it's still tasty. ~sip~
I'm almost sure you would lose the water heater without electricity... but I've never had gas, so I don't really know. When we lose electricity, we don't have water without the well pump... so it's a non-issue.
Yeah, some of the predictions have Rita passing pretty close to Austin still at hurricane strength (cat 1). Thing is, the Austin City Limits music festival is scheduled for this weekend, so the hotels in the area were already pretty full; people moving inwards from the coast are going to have a hard time finding a place to stay, here.
As for us, the major concern at our house is going to be possible wind damage; there are some pretty big trees pretty close to the house. Of course, it's not *our* house (we rent) but still... we're going to do a walk-around before Saturday to make sure we bring stuff in from the yard that might blow away, etc. Had already planned a shopping trip anyway, so we'll just make sure to stock up on emergency items at the same time.
We don't have any flood worries at our location; we're on high ground with no water sources (creeks, etc.) nearby. So there's that, anyway.
You might want to do laundry while you can. Also, fill the washer to store additional water.
I take it you've got a manual can opener?
Trying to think of things you might need to do....get some cash in case the atm/ electronic transfer system goes down....charge all cellphones. Batteries....radio...candles...matches...
Do you have any tarps? Hope you don't end up with roof damage, but it doesn't hurt to have cheap tarps on hand.
