The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh...my brain is most definitely not in high gear today. For the past half an hour or so, I've been wondering why I can smell something like meat and onions cooking. I thought maybe a naybor was cooking, but it seemed too strong smelling for that, and it's early for lunch.

Went through the house sniffing...and then found the crockpot. Um. Duh.

Already smells pretty tasty.

Now they're saying Rita is a Cat 2. But looks maybe like you'll just be on the outer fringe of it? Might be wet. Maybe not so much wind, though. Hard to tell from here.

That is one saaaaaad looking badger. Awfully skinny. And perhaps high. What's he on, I wonder?

Poor badger.

Good!

I didn't put in any onions because I didn't have time. Do we have some? I could throw them in for the last couple hours. Can you smell the wine? I tossed in the remnants of an old Merlot.

That's a skunk!

Yeah, we've got onions. I think I can smell wine. And garlic.

Whatever's in it, it's making me hungry.

Heh, heh, heh.

I'm gonna steam up some rice and we can be on our own for veggies. A nice merlot should make things perfect.

We didn't much of anything here, thank goodness.

Just some wind and rain - but nothing major. Whew.

And don't ask me about that flying badger. I googled him up and have nothing to do with his drug problem. :-D

Corrupter of badgers!

Glad you're safe, Ruthy!

Hope Texas is ready. Or wherever this thing hits next.

I don't just corrupt them.

I turn them into skunks!

Yeah, they're totally depraved.

Hmm, "Totally Depraved Badgers" might make a good name for a band.

It's speciesism, that's what it is.

Poor badgers...
