The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Halvah won't touch carpet. She will shred sisal, though...and her VERY favorite are those hard cardboard scratching panel things. But they make a mess, and I'm too lazy to vacuum all the time, so I rarely get 'em. She does love 'em, though.

Night to Remember...I think I have the book that was based on.

I think I'll get her one of these heat reflecting pads:

Miss Emily and Mr. DarcyCat seem to like theirs.

Everyone who can be saved is saved so I think I'll go walk now.

Morning, I recall reading the book for a class in High School. Saw the movie-a good one as I recall. Enjoyed the book more, but I usually do that.

I've also got K-19: The Widowmaker from Netflix. Looks like it's Disaster-at-Sea Sunday.

Skeet or Trap shooting is a lot of fun. I shot trap for many years. In the 80's I organized a company team and we shot in the Industrial League at Elliot's Shooting Park. We had a rotation of shooters so everyone got to shoot, not just the best shooters. We all the shotguns in our cars at work and drove directly there. Try doing that today.

Don't recall the name of the movie, but remember seeing one with Robert Stack, ship sinking, he's trying to rescue his wife who is pinned under debris. I think I rented k-19 once but we never got around to seeing it.

Yup, ya gotta get to the bullet hole.

A bit muggy out there!

This movie was made in 2002. Harrison Ford is in it. Nothing like a nuclear explosion to ruin your day!

And the Titanic movie disc has a commentary track (so I'll have to watch it again) and a "Making of" documentary.

Yep. Need to go shoot something. Maybe I should fire a few rubber bands at the squirrels.

So...does she get the color coordinated gray leopard pad, or the regular leopard?

Those do look cat-comfy.

Heh...

I dunno which goes with Simonese, as our elderly neighbor used to call them. (She also had trouble with her broccoli tubes on occasion...)

Ack-Run Away, Run Away. :-)

Although it is a bit muggy, the temps and sun are wonderful. Hope this weather lasts for a while. Glad I got the grass cut yesterday afternoon, it will be a while before it's dry enough again to cut.

Well, BBL, a siesta is in order.

Izzat baseball or football?

Hmm, I've really screwed up my sleeping patterns. Should have set an alarm for 10:30 no matter how tired I was. Oh well.

My football disaster was last night.

Got the grill fired up. Steak to follow.
