The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I can't lie and say that I wouldn't laugh if I saw someone do just that.

Rose didn't finish telling me before I hit 'post', you'll probably need to get a full-up copy of Office 2003 Professional. But, an Academic license of that should run about $100 on eBay.

Whoever you buy it from may require some form of proof that it's for educational purposes.

G'nite sir... been engaged here at da waterin' hole most of the evening with one of my favorite liberal sparring partners, or I woulda' been more attentive.

Seems he agrees with me on every point, and yet thinks he's still a liberal. [sigh] He's a regular here from San Fran. I wonder if there aren't lots of "liberals" out there like him, that glom onto the title, but don't really believe a word of it.

The difference is, they'll only vote for D's, and never for R's.

If his headstone doesn't say "Little buddy. Finally rescued." It would be wrong. :-)

Yah... but in SF... there aren't any R's. Just D's. This ia a town where they really do think there is a difference between "Progressive" and "Socialist".

I've seen very few little green lizards here actually. The bright green ones are pretty big - maybe a foot to a foot and a half long.

Those big guys run along the fences and wires.

They're called Cuban Anoles.

The salamander-looking thing that ran by my head is actually a Mediterrean gecko.

Austin is like that... the city council choices are between the openly socialist, the merely liberal, and the transvestites.

Williamson County, the county to the immediate north of Austin, on the other hand is one of the most Republican counties in Texas. You can spot any Democrat candidate in Williamson Co. by the fact that they don't put their party affiliation on their campaign signs. They know if they owed up to being Democrats they'd automatically lose. ;)

"Seems he agrees with me on every point, and yet thinks he's still a liberal."

Lots of people who call themselves liberals seem to think they believe in individual freedom and personal liberty, but nevertheless they vote as far left as ever they can, not seeming to get the contradiction.

It's why I've decided that "liberals" don't actually have any guiding principles at all. Socialists do have them, yes, but not some of the folks who think they are "liberal."

Good evening everyone.

And yours stay on the floor?

What nice creatures. Not frightening people by being on the ceiling when you're laying in bed.
