Ruthy calls to report that she has lost her fence (cedar privacy fence) and her avocado tree. The tree just uprooted and knocked the fence over. She says she is getting more wind from this storm than any of the ones last year that didn't hit her as head on. Not known if the mourning doves stuck with the tree or decided to bail.

Ah, got ya. Nice. I do love pretty wood!
My own guitar's pretty plain...but that doesn't mean I can't *look* at things like koa and quilted maple and Brazilian rosewood and nice walnut and such. Mmmm...

That doesn't sound too good. She still ok? Wish she could have gotten out.

Yikes...that doesn't sound good. Is the worst over now, though? Or is more damage likely?

This is a great site to windowshop.
Ed Romans Guitar Store in Las Vegas. The largest guitar store in the world.
There's even a section on tone woods with some pretty cool photos.

The eye hasn't crossed shore yet, though it's about to, so it's not ending soon. Relatively speaking it's not a major storm, but it's hitting her more on center than any in the last year or two.
She didn't put her shutters up for it... So she gets to watch everything. Hope it doesn't get strong enough to send something in through the window.

I'm not into electrics - yet - so I can't fully appreciate Ed Romans, though I've heard the name tossed around before. They do have a decent selection of acoustics, but not really quite the same. The tone wood page does have some nice pictures, though!
Typically I browse places like Cotten Music and Elderly Instruments and sometimes Buffalo Brothers for high quality guitar...umm...pictures. Cotten's instruments are pretty much all way out of my league, but gosh they have purty things! Got to stop there once. Super, super nice folks.

Eek...hope she doesn't seriesly regret not putting up the shutters!
Though...man I'd hate being cooped in with those up. That's gotta be a horrible claustrophobic feeling.

Gosh, though...with the wood not needing to be even and stable when really thin like you need for acoustic...you get away with some really wild looking wood! Just lookin' through more of the pictures. Awfully pretty stuff - I love some of the burled woods, especially.

I just noticed the new thread and I'm in before 1000.
Fitting, about the ending word "Dell". My son is out in Tn. training at the Dell Plant near Nashville for the next 3 weeks.

Those custom acoustics in those links are works of art. Much more so than an electric.

And they've got the price tag to go with it!
They *are* art, though, truly! They take a lot of care and time to build...and they're totally individual due to the woods and who knows what. Mine was built in a small shop, and I've played a few guitars that officially were identical - same types of wood, same body size - but they each had their own voice.
It's just something I truly love about guitars. I'd love to work part time someday in a shop that carried high end acoustics, just to be around 'em. Visiting Cotten was something else, I'll tell ya! They knew I wasn't in buying mode, but they still let me play a bunch and look to my heart's content. It was lovely.
Heh...I'll shut up now. Just something I feel strongly about. ;-)

The woods in fine rifle and shotgun stocks and even in handgun grips are the same way. Even from the same wood, they're all different. I think they aim the same though ;~D
