Yep, they make a commission on everyone they get hired... the recruiting company makes money on the deal, too.

Oh, DANG they're cute!! When we were in Japan, there was a place that you could go in and pay 800 yen (about $8) and just pet cats for as long as you want. I'm allergic to cats, so that doesn't interest me. Puppies, however, I might pay to play with for a while!

I'm glad you and yours are safe.... I hope it's over for you now.

I'm depressed not only from watching the footage, but by listening to FReepers argue with each other about every aspect of it. I figure I could begin arguing right along with them, or I could go for a ride in the woods and thank my lucky stars. I'm choosing the latter.

Enjoy your ride. But when you come back, I'll tell you why you were wrong. ;-)

*sigh* Here's one of my few Biloxi memories - when I was at Keesler for tech training, most weekends I used to take the bus to the mall there (Edgewater? Something like that) to go to DQ, the bookstore, to just wander a bit in the "real world"...and to go to the pet store. They had a couple of rooms where they could let a puppy loose to play and so you could interact, and though they must have known there was no way in the world I could have a dog, they let me do that a couple of times. There was a little papillion I kept visiting.

I really don't like seeing animals being sold at pet stores, but it got me through some of the worst of my homesickness. I wonder what's left of some of those stores. I haven't heard how Keesler fared, either.

Have you seen the video of the Coast Guard rescuing people off the roofs of their homes in New Orleans? Those guys are GREAT!!

Or, you could look at puppies.

Sometimes one has to remind oneself that there are nice things in the world.

Puppies are cuter than kittens because they have such worshipful eyes.

If they didn't, they'd never survive the chewing stage.

True.

I understand what Hair is saying. I can't seem to draw myself away from the news for very long. But the live threads are just getting ridiculously nasty.

Everybody's tired. Everybody is tense and worried.

None of that means we have license to act like jerks.

The governor of LA is calling for evacuating the evacuees from the shelter in NewOrleans. Flooding is getting worse.

Keesler came through fine. There is some damage, but for the most part, it is in good shape. Lots of families of airmen took shelter there.

During the worst part of the storm, the little stores around the mall were under water, Since the big mall is at the same level, I'm sure it was inundated as well. Don't know about wind damage. They are just now showing pictures of the aftermath in Gulfport and Biloxi, and they seem to be concentrating on the area of the casinos, which is several miles west of the mall.

I'm thinking my niece is not going to able to get back home for quite a while. She may end up having to put her kids in school in Ocean Springs. Her husband owns a food distribution company in NO; he supplied many restaurants in town. Don't know what he'll be able to do.

*shaking my head* On CNN, there's a group of young men with chain saws marching down Hwy 90, to the cadence of a couple of drummers! LOL! Only in Mississippi.

They may need to reevaluate and relocate to a more stable base. I think Ocean Springs would not be bad.
