THE mohican, as infamously sported by England soccer star David Beckham, has been voted the worst hair disaster of all time.
And the much maligned mullet came in a close second on the list of worst hairstyles in history. Also in the top 10 of most hated dos, as voted for by 1022 people quizzed for a new UK poll, was the beehive - whose most famous owner was Patsy from TV comedy Absolutely Fabulous - the helmet head and the classic ironed look.
Results of the Braun survey list the worst hair disasters of all time as:
1.The Mohican - a favourite of punks and football stars.
2.The Mullet - the 1980s look favoured by crooner Michael Bolton, which adds a very nasty twist to a short back and sides.
3.The Beehive - the 1960s look that defies gravity, thanks largely to hairspray, and for some reason made a comeback on catwalks in the 1990s.
4.Helmet Head - otherwise known as the "bowl" or "basin" cut.
5.New Romantic - it's long on one side, short on the other.
6.Back-combed Bouffant - sculpted, sprayed and teased into a helmet of big curls, waves, and bouffant which was surprisingly popular in the 1960s and 1980s.
7.Perm - loved by all throughout the 1980s.
8.The Ironed Look - sometimes achieved using the classic household appliance - the iron.
9.Crimped - a favourite among rockers in the 1980s.
10.The Page Boy - Marcus in About a Boy sported one. It's straight across the front and trimmed to the nape of your neck.
I think the point is: we're all ashamed of some of the things we did in the past.
Beckham's a wimp if he thinks that's a "mohican"? Where are the shaved sides?
My friends son who was eight at the time wanted a buzz cut after his hair had gotten pretty long (for him). My husband was going to do it for him but he thought it would be pretty funny to give him a Mohawk first. He did. My friend nearly keeled over! It was hilarious! The kid liked it and she let him have it for the weekend before she took him to a real barber to straighten the whole mess out!
We still laugh about that!
