Best Music to Drive By

I was just sitting here thinking about a 1500 mile drive I have to make, and contemplating burning a couple CDS for the drive. I found some music that would make it more interesting but not enough. So here is the question.

If you were going to drive from Phoenix to Indy, you were in a sports car, what music would you want to have on your cd?

Everytime we travel East...I put him in and sing along to the whole CD....The Best of Bob baby..woohoooo :)

Roy Orbison, another fabulous voice that can still send chills down my spine. I even enjoyed him when he got together with some other artists and recorded as the Traveling Wilburys.

If you're a SRV fan, you might also want to check out Johnny Winter as well, if you haven't already. SRV was heavily influenced by Johnny Winter, and Muddy Waters called him his "son." Speaking of Muddy Waters, "Hard Again" is a terrific CD. And Johnny Winter plays on it too.

One of the best driving Johnny Winter CDs is Illustrated Man. Just keep an eye on your speed while it's playing.

I don't know how people can do that while driving.

I listen to books on my iPod whenever time would be wasted otherwise. The trick to staying awake is in the choice of books. I manage 4-6 books a months that I would never have time to read. It's been wonderful!

String cheese incident? Bill Nershi, right? I saw them on Austin City Limits a while back.

I'd probably load the MP3 player with a wide mix- My wife & I have divergent tastes. Everything from J-Lo, Matchbox 20 and Sarah McLachlan (HERS) to Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, Jimmy Bufett, and Alison Kraus & Union Station. (MINE)

We did a 12 hour drive across NJ and all of PA last year and didn't hear the same track twice.

Two CD's = 140 minutes or so - that's about 600 miles per hour.

That's what I was thinking. DaiHuy must drive like I do.

The best investment I ever made for my car was getting an Alpine stereo receiver/CD player that "understands" MP3s. I can get about 6 - 8 hours of very high quality music, or about 12 hours of audiobooks.

Personally, it is always classic jazz for me when I'm driving. Very relaxing, I find New Orleans, swing, big band, bebop, hot jazz, cool jazz, free jazz, ragtime etc. etc. etc. all on a steady rotation. There's nothing like driving down the road on a dark night, with the gentle glow of the dashboard and the sound of Coltrane and Canonball Adderly on the stereo. Suggestions, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, J.J. Johnson, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong(good ol' Satchmo), Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Joe Pass, Pat Methany, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, John Zorn(sort of tripped-out thrash jazz, particularly the famous album, Naked City , And there are myriad jazz-rock artists about. Also, Pink Floyd, Mars Volta, Mogwai, Make Say Do Think, Explosions in the Sky. Almost anything by these artists is enjoyable, this is just off the top of my head. My playlist has every kind of music you could imagine: classic rock,jazz, folk, country, blues(pre-war and post-war), rock 'n roll, blue grass, funk, world.... Boy, do I spend a lot of time on music.
