The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Fall's coming... when it's clear, it's been getting down to just under 50, but this morning it's overcast and 58. And muggy, but you folks probably won't let me complain about muggy at 58 degrees. :~D

Good morning!

Muggy can be uncomfortable no matter what. But I can't imagine it being too uncomfortable at 58. :-)

59 degrees and 61% humidity? We don't get muggy much, so we feel it.

It's getting muggy because these clouds will bring rain by tomorrow, we think.

Rain will be good. Have you gotten much rain this summer? We've had virtually none, but we had a nice downpour a couple of days ago. The water table was low in my town that we had issues with water pressure.

I don't recall that we've had rain since a good shower in late June. It's not uncommon to go the full months of July and August with no rain at all, and the pasture is just crunchy, like walking through the desert. It would take three days of rain to begin to bring life back to it.

It's 80 here now. As long as I stayed in the shade it wasn't too bad, but on the stretches it where there was no shade it has steaming. I rode about 2 hours. I was wanting to do 3 but remembered I had forgotten to get some ribs I'm cooking in the crockpot. I forgot them yesterday too, so I had to come home to get that done. We did some really good hill climbing tho, and a very long stretch of trotting and loping, so it was a good work out even tho it was short. Next week the weather is suppose to be alot better. That will be my last full week, so I'm going to do alot of conditioning then. The week before the ride, I usually give my horse a couple days to get rested good. One of those rest days he will get a bath. It's really coming up fast:)

With all the rain we have been getting, my front yard looks like a jungle. I noticed when we went to town last night the hay fields are really looking good, and everyone's front yards are greener then they are in the spring. Crazy weather.

Good morning,

No, they haven't been on one lately. Their next endurance ride is October 1st. That's the next one that's close enough and not a 100 mile ride.

We've got shows Sept. 10th (maybe) and Sept. 17th (for sure).

It sounds like you and Harley are going to be in great shape for the CTR.

I think on conditioning we will be fine. That is one part of the scoring that I can control:). The obstacles are where I have problems. And it's just hard to practice those. You just have to wait and see what they throw at you. Today I backed him into a puddle, I've had to do that before.

I figure if I can do well on the condioning, timing, stableing and presentation (which reminds me I need to practice lungeing and trotting in hand), then I still have a chance even if I flub and obstacle:)

Oh, and good luck at the shows. Are you just showing halter or will they be in some preformance classes?

I have a feeling you two are going to do great, obstacles, presentation and all :)

We are only showing halter this year, just not enough time, trailers, money to do more.

I was beginning to wonder were everyone was today.

Lazy days can be fun:)

I'm not riding today. We have some friends who don't have the TNT channel and are NAS Car fans. They called last night and asked if we would record the race last night and they are coming this afternoon to watch, so I'm cleaning house.

It is really steaming here today. My windows and door all have moisture fogging them, and a patch of the flocking on my ceiling in the dinning room fell off. It does that when there is alot of humidity.
