The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It'll be just us on Friday, marking the trail for an organized ride on Saturday. I don't know who the organized ride group is.... it's probably a poker ride, not a competitive ride.

State forest.... but yes, it'll be in the same place, except we'll go on some trail ecurbh hasn't been on yet on the 15 mile loop.

You guys going to do the ride on Sat. too?

Doning 15 miles marking could take awhile. What do you guys use for markers there? Is it something that has to be taken back down then when it's over?

On CTR rides they use parachute ribbons hooked with clothes pins. Of course that all has to be taken back down after the ride.

At Robbers Cave, they have colored plastic squares nailed to trees along the trails. They have mileage for the different colors. But alot of the trails intersect so if you go on more then one color you wouldn't know your exact mileage.

At Arrowhead, they have differnt colors too, but they just spray paint the colors in big circles on the trees. As far as I know, there are no mileage counts either.

I don't know how complex the trail marking will be.... I've seen both simple ribbons and squares or plates used....

No... we're not going on the ride again Sat. Just the marking. I think he wants us to go help so he doesn't have to get up and down off his horse so much :~D

We haven't heard from you lately. I know you've been over on the hurricane thread. I hope everything is ok this morning. From what I could tell on the news, it looked like it missed Brownsville by abont 90 miles, but I'm sure the outer bands are rough too. Let us know how you're doing and how things are going when you can.

We are having tropical storm winds. My fence down and some shingles loose but it could be a lot worse. My DSL going down has been the hardest part:'). I'll be back when I can. Thanks for thinking about us.

Oh and I'm so glad the horses out of this. I had been worrying about having moved them prematurely. Later.

What beach is this? Boy, it's been almost 20 years since I've been to a beach.

I was wondering about you, not knowing what part of Texas you're in. Hope it isn't too bad where you and the horses are.

Goodness... hope it's not too bad. I can't comprehend winds like you've probably already seen.

Well the verdict is in. LOL...this is just a comdedy. This guy is saying I have a faulty tree:). It's not broke, but the pitch of the bars is different from each other. One side is lower. He thinks I will have to treat it as a broken tree.....

My thoughts: Why, with all the miles in the 10 years I have rode in that saddle, have I never had a sore backed horse. Never. I have never been marked off for a sore back? Why is Harley haveing trouble, altho he isn't sore, he is just developing a rub spot. But I rode him alot last year, why is the spot just now showing up? I'm thinking it had to do with my wore out pad. I'm going to have them put it back together, altho I'm going to go see it first, (I'll try to get a picture:), then use it with the new pad and see what happens.

It just doesn't make sense that it could be that serious of a problem since I've had it so long, and have even rode Harley in it so long.

Becky

Could it have warped over time? - or become warped recently?

Or.... if it's always been that way, perhaps both Rusty and Harley, and Rocky... are all just very stoic and tolerant of it... and perhaps Belle was not, or it hit her in a worse way - sometimes.

I don't know....

Thanks for the invite. Today is day 9 or 10 of triple digit temp at my house - I can't remember which. Didn't I read about high temps up your way too?
