This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good morning.
Hair, estrogen: enjoyed your pictures:)
Becky
Morning Becky!
Sharn, great pics! You're quite accident prone though! ;-)
I love those pics, and your barn is beautiful!
I tripped over a piece of wood that 'sticks out' when you walk past the bottom of the stairs. I heard my toe crack.
I had suitcases etc so i didnt see it. Never mind, it feels a little better this morning. I can't bend it at all and its a georgous shade of blue! : )
my problem is that my feet take so long to heal. I have only just got over the broken toe and foot that i did when i tripped over a cat at home and kicked a column.
I should wear shoes at all times, but i dont. Deaconjim is threatening to get me steel toe cap boots! LOL Oh and he says the shade is purple, not blue!
Great photos of your lake visit Hair! : )
We are heading out to MO soon to look at some properties, I WILL take my camera and I PROMISE to take some pics! : )
oops i meant ocean!
Sharn, you done good. The cabin looks wonderful. Good job!
I sure hated to hear about your toe. I've stumped mine like that before and the pain is just incredible, and I didn't even break it, so I can imagine how it must hurt if it's broken. I hope it's just jammed instead of broken coz breaks can take a long time to heal. About all you can do for it is to tape it to another toe. I'd wear shoes as much as I could stand coz they'll keep you from bumping it on stuff. Don't let it ruin your trip. Have fun and keep the pictures coming! :o)
The cabin is very nice, are you staying in it? Where is it at, MO?
Have fun.
I'm finishing up breakfast, then I'm going to trail ride on Harley today to get the feel of Jenny's saddle.
I went to the barrel race to watch Kristy last night. She had a rough night. In fact it looked like alot of them did. Lots of knocked down barrels. Lance and all his entourage was there:), but I was too lazy and it was too hot for me to go see what horses he had there. I didn't stay for the whole thing it was running very late, so I left as soon as Kristy ran so I didn't see him run. He brings a whole bunch of horses and what looks like people he must be training. I wish I had a moving camera to take and post so I could show you all how he "trains". It's bizzare. I haven't been able to figure out how he accomplishes what he does doing his training like that, or the theory behind it. But it's funny you can tell a Lance Graves student a mile off:), they all do the same thing altho they don't make it look nearly as smooth as he does.
The way we learned at the clinic was complicated enough, this looks even more so.
Well, with all the roadblocks I've had this past few weeks, I decided last night on the long drive home, I'm just going to really get serious now about practicing here, and at the two other arenas that are very close to me for the next month and then be ready to go to that barrel race that starts at the end of Aug. that was my goal anyway to be good enough to go too. Chechotah is just too far for me for where I'm at. But ready or not in a month I'm going, and I'm going to compete, not exhibition.
Becky
Thanks for pics of the cabin and surrounds :~D I appreciate them!
What a lovely cabin!
I thought your pics were terrific, chica!
And that barn is the cat's meow. :-D
Good plan....
And good morning! Our guest goes home today, I'd like to do another short ride on Bay, then let him rest till the ride on Friday. We'll see though, ecurbh has to work all day and has errands tonight.
Blue or purple it sounds uh, Lovely! :-) I'm glad to hear that you're having such a wonderful trip. It's hot as anything here, and it's not the heat so much as it is the terrible terrible humidity.
You guys need to hold me to that plan:)
That's right, you go on your 15 miler this weekend! Now, you're marking trails, or just clearing? I can't remember. Why does Bob do this? Is he part of an organization or something?
Becky
Sounds like everyone is having problems with humidity. It's just miserable here.
Becky
Yeah, the humidity is really brutal here too. Yesterday afternoon, we got some really spectacular localized lightening storms with some flash flooding. It's weird. It could be coming a flood on one side of the river and dry as a bone on the other. It didn't rain at my house at all but I almost got washed away in town. I want to ride this weekend, but it's supposed to be in the upper 90s with about the same degree of humidity. The heat index is already over 100 and I think it's supposed to be 105 by Saturday. If we go, we'll have to go EARLY.
You riding around here has to be early. I'm pushing the limit here this morning. Probably be a short ride.
To get to the other arenas, as I plan:), I'm going to have to be out of here in the mornings by 7-7:30 to get enough riding in to make hauling worth while. I'd like to take both Rusty and Harley with me when I go.
The farrier is coming back Mon. He really was sick, that was why he didn't make it this Mon. and canceled till Tues. But I'm still aggravated. To get everyone on the same schedule now, I'll either have to run Harley a week long or do Rusty and Rocky a week early next time. I don't like letting Harley go to long, he tends to forge if I do. But Chris said they probably aren't going to grow much with the heat like it is....
Becky
Oh, so there will be more people then just you 3?, or they are having a big ride on Sat?
Will this be in the state park you have been going to?
Sorry for all the questions, but enquiring minds want to know:).
Becky
