The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL! My front rose bed had got seriosly overgrown with weeds, and Deaconjim has been out there all morning weeding it for me and putting down gravel to make it look nice, which it does! : ) We are going to bring in one of the puppies today which is going to a home this weekend. they are all eating dried puppy chow and drinking water, but he needs to adjust without MOM for a few days. : )

It's going to be so much fun for yall. Funny, I normally would be thinking about "my place" but I realized the hard way that I wasn't ready yet and though chaotic at times what I had wasn't bad. The stables are just temporary but I'm comfortable and in no hurry to get out right now. I have my arena, a round pen, a barn, a place to ride and experienced people around if I get into problems. It's a good place to grow.

well then deaconjim is the same, he "lives to work" right now and we want to change that to "work to live". If you added up all the time we saw him in the week, especially the kids, its not much. We want to change that. Life is too short to live like that and we are going to take a huge step back from the fast lane to do it. : )

So, what happened that caused James to see the light? (if you want to share) We are talking about 12-16 hour days with constant call ins after hours and on weekends. No vacations. He's salary and if you added it up, even though he gets paid very well he's probalby making minimum wage. I'm not being spoilt or nagging any more but I really worry about him. That's why I want him to keep his property. Even his brother concerned because he keeps saying he can't get away to the "ranch".

I wondered if it might mean something like that, but I didn't figure it did, at least not literally, if you willingly threw it out there, so I figured "what the heck!", I'll bite. I've never been accused of not asking enough questions. ;o)

My husband works lots of long hours too, so I completely understand. It's one of those things that you just have to accept and go on, or it'll drive you crazy.

I used to have ambition.... Now I only care about my free time. Anything I do for money now is just that. It's a place to earn enough money to do what I really want to do.

That's pretty much what I have done. I do my own stuff. Fighting just made things worse. I work for a check to do the stuff I want to do. I give 100% while there but that's it. The sad thing is that at one time I was just like him until I saw what it was doing to me. He doesn't understand because I have "changed". He blames it on FR:')

I've never really had all that much ambition, at least financially. Heck, my college degree is in music performance.

(How do you end up with a small fortune by playing trombone? Start with a large fortune.)

My needs are simple, my wants are few. All I want now is to get some land of our own, build a home and a stable, and earn enough to stay out of debt.

Change of subject but I finally ordered Sarah Lee a fly mask. They are really bad and all over her face esp around her eyes.

They do work... at least for keeping them off the eyes. They need to be taken off at night (I think they inhibit vision in the dark) and I hose mine off frequently as they get dusty and dirty.

Yes. I thought that might be a problem for you, so I brought it up. I wouldn't leave them on at night. I've never tried looking through them in the dark though.

Well Deaconjim used to work all hours, two jobs, and didnt see his first wife very much, and then she died of a diabetic complication. You cant turn back time. My first husband used to work all hours too, we put off doing so many things and would say "one day", well he got cancer and that "one day" never came.
Deaconjim and I have been looking after deaconjims parents for the past 4 years, 2 years intensive, and now that they are in a better place, we are going to live for us and the children, nobody else. We are going to do everything it takes to get free of a mortgage and move to a farm and live simpler and healthier. We dont mind hard work but we have to be able to have time as a family or else what do you live for? What is the good of living in a huge house, working all the hours if you cant enjoy it as a family? We have been studying ways to live and how we can do it , and with Gods guidance we know we can make it work. The children are excited about it too. All we need is a buyer now! Anyone want this huge house, a 3 bed house and 10 acres at a bargain price? : )

Good afternoon all. Everything is under control. sigh. Car fixed, porcupine quills out of dog's nose, proudflesh taken care of, and here is the giant Appy that belongs to neighbors. Since Accident-Prone Melody is out of commission I am riding this giant thing for my neighbors to keep him tuned up. More pics coming, it just takes me a long time to post them.
