The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Isn't she gorgeous!?

Just remember you asked:).

No I don't think she is gorgeous. Rather big headed, long eared, and waaaaay to slender and skinny butted. No doubt her color is striking, and sometimes that makes it hard to see what's actually there.

But this is just my opinion, and remember I'm use to looking at muscle bound quarters:)

He is growing up really pretty! I forget... is he out of your stallion or another stud?

He doesn't really have weird eyeballs. they shave them close and oil them around the eyes to make their eye look bigger. It's a stupid ugly tactic and I thought had fallen out of fashion.

Pretty girls. What color is Josey going to be. They are so funny when they are shedding.

So what is the price? How'd you find it. Isn't that a bit too green for a 10 yr old?

Poor Josey is still in her shedding phase.... they're all going to be pretty though, you should be proud of this crop!

Tuffy is sired by a friend's stud. Speed is sired by another friend's stud. Lacey and Josey are sired by our stud.

Why do they do it. It makes him look wild eyed , like he's about to shy IMO.

Ruthy said $3,500. I assumed she was green when her major accomplishment was "Completed ground training".

Josey is going to be grey like her mom. She'll probably retain her spots since her base color is bay. Black spots hang around a lot longer than red ones for some reason. She will also always have her blanket, whether it will show or not is anyone's guess at this point.

I took it the horse was green too. But at 10 years old, that's not a good sign, IMO.

:) Josey is a different color every day right now. And beginning to look moth eaten. It'll be awhile before she's completely shed out and ready for pictures and registration.

That's exactly what they want in an Arab stud. They scare the crap out of them and bring them in the ring flyin' high above the ground. I never liked the shiny eyes. I think it detracts from the rather gorgeous eye of the natural Arab head. A little baby oil, to make them look black and not dry, is good. Shiny = bad.

I think she said that a 12yr old was lightly riding the mare. I'm thinking maybe saddle broke but not trained at all. And, at her age, you would think she'd have been doing something or in a broodmare band.

Have you seen many buckskin Arabs? I didn't realize that they had that color in the purebreds.

Not many, it's not common. Rarely see palomino either.

And, btw - I think you should ask for a riding lawn mower for your anniversary. :)

That's kind of what I think, she should be doing alot more.

Putting it in the ad that a 12 year old is lightly riding her makes it sound like the horse is very good, but then it says that the horse will make a good WP horse, tells me she's only in an arena probably walking around. Take her out of the arena and she'd probably wig out and the 12 year old probably doesn't ride her.

It's very possible that this is a very dishonest ad. If I was looking for a horse and read an ad like that, I wouln't even bother to go look.
