This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It wasn't the way you're supposed to do things, that's for sure... She's going to be big enough, I guess... but I know it stunted the momma's growth to be pregnant and nursing while she was still trying to grow up. Tiff had a hard time keeping weight on her.
I would be concerned that it would affect the Mommas bone structure, arent they still growing at that age? I hope that she is ok. Sounds like the owners were irresponsible. I am still new to horses but everyone knows what animals will do as soon as they reach the age, given half the chance!

I'll have to ask my husband, I'm not sure what he pays for all that. I tell you what, though, it's worth it, the fire ants around here are unbelievable. The mounds can get knee high and if you don't put the stuff out in the spring, the pastures are covered with them.
Yes, I'm near DFW and I also have wimpy ass southern blood. :)

Morning Becky. Don't know if I'm going to ride today because it's supposed to be in the 90s. It's nice and cool this morning, but I'm stuck in the office.
I'm getting ready right now to head out to ride Rusty. I'm kinda hanging around that lady wants to look at Rusty again, but I'm not sure if she is coming or not. She was suppose to call last night and never did. I'm not waiting long, because it's suppose to be int he 100's again today here.

Rusty is saddled, the lady is a no show. I'm almost glad:). I mean, I wouldn't have a problem selling her Rusty, she takes very good care of her animals, but I'm a bit worried that she is going to be a high maintenence person, know what I mean. LOL....seems to be alot of them around.
She has called every day and she just wants to sit and chat about this other friend of her's who she thinks is trying to screw her on a horse deal. One I don't like to sit and chat on the phone. If I have to talk to someone, that's about the only time I call, then I say what I have to and hang up. Maybe I'm that way because I do all my chatting here:) And Two, I don't know this other lady, I don't care to hear about problems, my horse riding is my time to enjoy. And three I have a big problem being sympathetic to people who are my age and LET someone screw them and say nothing except to bitch to other people about it. And she talks about this other friend as her "BEST" friend....by my age, you know, that just shouldn't be a factor.
Anyway, I've gotten pretty blunt with her over the phone a few times, and she doesn't seem to catch on that I'm really not interested in all her sorrows....LOL...it's almost amusing, except it's a pain. LOL.

I've just been to feed the horses, and this morning, when I brought him in the yard, Bay didn't want to eat with the new horse out of sight... He's claimed her as his own.... at least someone likes her, the mares are still bein' b*tchy. He ran to greet her when I put him back in... (through the fence of course)
Now Bay will probably make a big production about her going home tomorrow :~D
You'll be stealing a member of his harem! How dare you! ;o)

If I ever get to move up there, maybe I can convince Tiff to sell Sweetie to me. Or even a lease, maybe. :-D
