The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Seriesly, though...a 5K might be a good start, and a manageable goal. The one I did, I kinda teamed up with a gal who was always at the gym when I was. We both were there at times of the day to avoid the hardbody types, and just wanted to sorta get in shape. Got to be good friends. And eventually, we made that our goal. Unfortunately, I kinda slacked off not long afterwards.
Ya know...I wonder if there are any really low-key 5K events up here. Might be something I *could* train for, along with anyone in the Hole who'd be willing to be remote buddies.. I've chickened out so far, but Fort Collins has nice trails for such things. Hmmm...

*happy dance*
I'll have to try and recruit some other Hobbit Holers to take a day trip there that week.

I just can't see myself suffering on a run.
I'm barely keeping up with my stretches and knee exercises as it is.
Yeah, I know. I'm a bum.

Jr. and Luke will go to Six Flags with you. And Luke will ride the coasters. The child fears ~nothing~.
I'm in soooo much trouble.

Well, I've done the 5k kinda, I haven't entered one, but I was running the 5k twice a week before school broke for summer vacation. Then I got lazy. Now I can barely run two miles. I just wanna see if I can train up to the half marathon.

I'm there, I'm there!
I've been wanting to go. But nobody here likes roller coasters :-(
How can you not like roller coasters?

Heh...and pretty soon 2J - Miss Marathon - is gonna show up on thread and we'll all feel like pikers. ;-)
I get excited about getting back into the shape I was when I did that 5k...but it's true, I forget also how much running can hurt. It's why I gave it up when Jen and I were doing that program that was supposed to work up to a 5K. *sigh*
Of course, part of that was doing it on a treadmill, which was unspeakable boring, but...

I'm a bum, too. I'm morally opposed to running (except in emergencies). I'd much prefer to walk and enjoy the scenery.

Okay, my technical question for tonight. (I'll get back to the laptop later, I need to get some other stuff done first).
And first I have to admit that I'm rethinking not doing the Christmas show. That said, I've got a midi accompaniment to the song I want to use if I audition.
Here are the questions:
1) I've burned it to a CD. Will it just play now like a regular CD (I'm really ignorant on this stuff). Or do I have to do some reformatting?
and
2) Is it possible to edit a midi (with software I don't have). It would be helpful to add a four count drum beat to the intro.
Discuss.

We'll have to convince the others.
If we get a group rate, it should be affordable enough for even the non-coaster people to want to go and watch the shows and stuff.

It'll be in January so it won't be hot. We'll both be running slow, we won't be racing, we just wanna finish. You'll feel a real sense of achievement once you do it.
*grin* I can hear you cursing me now. But we should at least try...

I've never been to an amusement park. But if it's fairly affordable, I'm game.

Running is for prey. IMHO. :-)

1) It depends.
2) Yes, with software you don't have.
Gosh... I just love being helpful. :-)
