I had the privilege of interviewing Graham Chapman of Monty Python back in '82. He visited my college and stopped by campus station WMWM, where I was a DJ at the time. I knew of Python since 1974, when an NBC summer replacement show called ComedyWorld showed clips like "The Boring life of a Stockbroker" and "Bicycle Repairman"; then, months later,
it started to show up on public TV.
The tape of the interview is long lost now but I still remember part of it:
Graham: Might I conclude with a squawk?
Me: A prolonger squawk?
Graham: (clear throat): No, just a squawk. (LOUDLY) ERAWWKKKKKKK!
(people in studio laugh)
Graham: I bet that messed your meters up!
Me: I think you knocked us off the air...
Graham was at my college promoting his book A Liar's Autobiography. A couple years later he appeared at the
Channel Nightclub in Boston to promote a TV project he
was doing, The Dangerous Sportsclub, and I attended.
