So according to this list, there were no great black Americans prior to the mid-20th Century? (only nominees: Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mohammed Ali, and Oprah)

Everyone we must make Ronald Reagan the Greatest American ever.

No need.

Ronald Reagan has already made himself the greatest American.

Reagan was great. I'm just not yet convinced he's the greatest ever.

Well, OK. Maybe except for Otto Graham and Ted Kluszcewski.

Sorry, I had to vote for Benjamin Franklin. Hands down the #1 man I'd like on my all-time pickup team.

Loved Uncle Ron, as my father called him. Outstanding President. But I can't say that he was the greatest American ever.

That title should belong to the father of our nation, George Washington.

All I could think of when I saw the title of this thread was...

Been there.....done that!

At least Hitlery is out of the top 25, and the only ones that would vote for her puppet are the BJ obsessed and the society leech-suckers. Of course, DU will put out a call to vote, but I doubt most can spell Discovery, never mind the .com.

Did anyone else notice there was not a bad word to be spoken about Hitlery, and a VERY quick, and brief mention about JFK, but... every 'pubbie President had a couple of negative comments..??????

I believe Ronald Reagan is one of the greatest Americans, top ten easy, but I will be voting for Washington.
To me, anyone willing to turn down the absolute power of king of America, deserves the respect of the greatest American.

WE can't make him the best president...that was based upon his actions.

I still say its honest Abe. He saved the country, helped end slavery, was an honest guy "with charity towards all and malice towards none". He's got my vote!

"I'd vote for either George Washington or Alexander Hamilton. It would be a toss-up."

I'm with you. But, it's gotta be George Washington. Once again he should be:

First in war

First in peace

First in the hearts of his countrymen

And I LOVE Hamilton, but it's gotta be the original George W.

I have a better idea. Let's tell people how big a joke the list was to begin with instead of driving revenue generating traffic to their site, and promoting their program as worth watching.

Reagan was a great president, but I'd have to give the vote to George Washington.

Washington showed presidents how to act. He was offered almost unlimited power and turned it down. This country was incredibly lucky to have the right man, with outstanding character, in the right place to start this country. So, I'll agree with you. Hamilton, of course, set the foundation for this country's vast wealth, and as a result, vast power. The man was a genius, and a prophet. Can you imagine a bigger team of all-stars for your cabinet than the list Washington assembled?

I like Daniel Boone for the job, myself. Boone fits all the criteria: Big RKBA'er; strong advocate of private property rights; multicultural (he was adopted by the same Indians he was fighting); independent; a family man; a Christian; a frontiersman; an explorer ...
