It's not just you... Looks like a much darker interpretation, and I just don't think that's a good thing with that story. It'd be sorta like a Tim Burton interpretation of The Sound of Music.

The new version is directed by Tim Burton... I think it's probably more faithful to the book, which was rather dark. It was written by Roald Dahl, after all; when he wasn't writing children's stories, he was writing horror.

I'm guessing it will flop simply because parents won't take their kids to see it and parents won't go see it if they've got a night off from the kids.

I'm sure it's gonna be cool in that Tim Burton kind of way, but I wouldn't spend $20.00 to go to the theatre for it.

My fave Burton project was A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Ever read the book? It's much darker than that silly movie. Vey dark. Roald Dahl had a strange sense of humor. I think the remake looks like it's going to be much truer to the book, and I'm loooking forward to it.

Also Johnny Depp is a better choice for Wonka than Gene Wilder was. Wonka has a rather... sick, almost sadistic streak.
