To each their own! I like alfalfa sprouts better than lettuce as a sandwich ingredient. And of course, you can sprout any edible seed. Radish sprouts are hot and spicy...I like 'em. And I like bean sprouts, like you see in a lot of Asian dishes. I've had broccoli sprouts too. I know you don't like broccoli, but I really liked them.
I can only grow so many things at one time. Although I wouldn't mind having sprouts handy.
Time to go.
Sprouts need to be part of something, like a nice Asian dish. Don't like 'em on their own but if they're just adding to a whole, they're fine.
That's how I do mine. They have a screen on them, right? One screen is fine for little seeds like mustard and alfalfa, one is medium for seeds like radish seeds and one is coarse, for things like mung beans and such. Right now I have them soaking. They'll soak for a while...about 6 hours then I'll rinse them right through the screen and invert them, screen down and slightly tilted so they drain. I do that a couple of times a day and that's it! After a few days, sprouts! Take them out, rinse them real good, stick 'em in a baggie and start over!
I like bean sprouts in cooked dishes, but there isn't anything as good as sprouts on a sandwich...lettuce is wimpy in comparison!
"tastes like lawn"
~ROARING!~
The jar came with the different screens? Or it was a kit with different screens to use with a standard jar? Maybe I should look for one of those, too!
Whole Foods will definitely have the screens...look up to where I started talking about my new one being crap and click on the link in the post...it'll show you what they look like. They're really pretty cheap...they're just the screens and they go on your average wide mouth jar. I think a mayo jar would probably work just fine.
I got mine at Whole Foods years ago, but I see them at our local whole food stores all the time.
Ah...I get it! Thanks...should have clicked on that link a long time ago.
Sprouts = tree huggin' hippy crap ;~D
Right now, I have the fine screen on my radish seeds. In a couple of days, when they sprout and are big, I'll switch to the medium screen. That will help the husks to rinse out. Same with the lentils. They have the medium screen right now but in a couple of days, I'll switch to the coarse screen.
Rinsing is the ticket. In my opinion, the more you rinse, the better the sprouts. But you only have to rinse them a couple of times a day.
I like to call it "Insti-salad"! ;-D
You don't have to combat worms or bunnies or even dirt!
Where's the fun of food you don't battle for?
Battled-for food is good too!
OK, next time I go to Whole Foods, I'm gonna look. I can always give it a try!
How do you plan to use the lentil sprouts? And do you know what kind of beans are typically used for the bean sprouts used in stir fry? Is it mung beans? I wonder if those would be available in the bulk foods bins. Probably.
My system is called Sprout-Ease Econo-Sprouter Toppers.
I bet it looks great though, huh?
Not too bad, if I do say so myself. Did just about everything... might mop the floors tomorrow but the bathroom and living room are clean, the table has been polished, the carpet vaccuumed, the trash is gone, and I even managed to fold and put away all the laundry.
Ugh...I hate laundry. I don't mind doing it or folding it, but putting it away seems to be low on the list of importance. I mean, it's clean. We usually just fish it out the basket! LOL
Yeah, unfortunately so do I. I didn't this time though! All of it's hung or folded.
So I have clean clothes to take home with me... mmm, clean clothes...
DANG! Sorry. You'll be put on active prayers on the Parish list this week.
