The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hey, looks like it's working now!

Hullo, everybody! Got back safe and sound and had a great ride. Thanks to Hair and Ecurbh for brightening my (incredibly LONG) day with their visit! :)

I did, and I did!

The one with my mouth full was too funny! Loved the shots of the dogs. Great job on catching me in motion!

Rosie, the jersey is the one from last year's RAMROD (Ride Around Mt. Rainier in One Day) and is an artist's rendering of Mt. Rainier and Reflection Lakes. It's my favorite jersey, and always a conversation starter, lol...

The ride was great. I arrived in Portland at 8:10 pm, not exactly as early as I wanted, but my average speed was 15 mph which I was thrilled with! Didn't get rained on at all, and actually got sunburnt a bit, the weather was absolutely perfect at 68-71 degrees. People were generally very friendly and supportive of one another, it was a great time. The only thing I had problems with was a low fuel moment at around mile 75 and very sore seat and arms for the last 25 miles. My legs were doing great, believe it or not!

Sunday, I biked/rode the lightrail over to our church in Vancouer, then it was back on the bike that afternoon to ride back up the route to stay in Longview Sunday night. It was very fun to be riding out and seeing all the 2-day riders riding towards Portland. I saw the unicycle rider that I've heard does the ride every year, and got quite a few confused/"you-are-insane" looks from the few who had the energy to look up from the road and see me. Then it was back to Chehalis yesterday where I met my parents for dinner (and some much-needed TLC).

Thanks, everyone, for your prayers and best wishes!! I'm ready to do it again next year, so who knows??

Well, good job!

I have offficially cut ten minutes off my morning commute time in the weeks I've bene doing it - took me 35 minutes in the beginning and I managed it in 25 today. That was pretty hard for me, though.

Do you do the one that's over the pass too? or from the pass down, or something?

I've been waiting all morning to tell you my new sprouter is crap. You know, the one I got at the thrift store?

Sprouts, in my experience, have to be rinsed vigorously to maintain freshness. This just trickled water on them and they rotted.

I've gone back to my original sprouter. They're just caps that fit on top of my regular wide-mouth canning jars. Very simple, very effective. And the jars fit on my windowsill and the sprouts look pretty...like a little garden growing in my window!

it took 6 minutes for me to finally be able to access your post! On my comments page is said it was 8338 of 8337 for forever!

Maybe the reason FR is going so slow is 'cause the Hole has gotten too big?

I use a big bowl and a iced tea jar to do sprouts. I was tempted to buy an automatic sprouter but I saved the money instead.
