The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Probably ninja magic. Didn't you watch Naruto? Libraries... right. Sure, we should keep funding them more and more and more!! Just Like the USPS and Amtrak.... Surely they will never be obsolete.

I have on occasion watched Naruto, yes... not my idea of ninjas, but they are fond of reading their little scrolls.

I'm ok with funding libraries, but libraries are for books. Not internet access and multimedia events.

I am fine with funding them. Just not dumping money on them. Got to love the way Libs equate 'reduced funding for' to 'wants to burn down'.

Yup, that's what I figured. I'd have asked the little wiccan missies whether they meant "cut" or "Reduction in growth of spending" but I figured they wouldn't know.

Well... its working just now... for the moment.

My poor laptop is kinda' a hurtin unit. Too many miles and too many days been rode hard and put away wet.

Today I finally ordered a new one. Going for the IBM thinkpad X41. It's a really small laptop, and also a tablet. Pretty nifty. :-)

Sounds fancy.

Then again, anything is fancy compared to my creaking dial-up driven e-machine. *grin*

We received several more emails in the last couple days, many from a unit getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. Per our discussions last week, I am telling them up front that we cannot promise them a particular knife, but that we are thankful for their service and will do our best to send them something as our stock and funds allow.
I am a crew chief on the AH-64A helicopter. In speaking with my buddy who is also on the DART team (downed aircraft recovery team) he mentioned that you have a special knife for extrication of a pilot. If possible I would like to be a recipient of one of these.

I think you have a million dollar idea here to support troops. I recently heard of a National broadcast talk show host Glenn Beck, that did something very similar with Camelbaks' hydration systems. My unit supplied mine for me but I understand that not all troops over there are as fortunate. Being in aviation some of the more finer things to be had are more readily available. Of course we are officer heavy.....wink wink ha ha ha

I think this is an awesome project. It not only helps with much needed equipment, but augments the cost for the already struggling troop to make ends meet.
One of my flying buddies informed me that knives are being given to deploying aviators. If this is so, I would greatly appreciate receiving the BK2 CAMPANION. Thank you very much. It is organizations like yours that aid in keeping moral high for our soldiers everywhere.
I was made aware of your efforts and your website by a fellow pilot who excitedly came into the office last week to show off his new knife. It was the Gerber LMF II and it was amazing. I have been shopping around for a knife to take with me on deployment and hadn't really seen anything that I really liked until I saw his. I especially like the butt of the knife that seems to be made specifically for cockpit breakout capability.

If at all possible, I was wondering if you might be able to send me a knife. I would really like the Gerber, but I understand that you may not have it available. My friend said that he received his knife free of charge and though that would be nice, I would be willing to pay you if necessary.

Even if you cannot send me a knife, I would still like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of the troops everywhere. It's people like you that make our job worth all the sacrafices.
I have been told about your website and your mission by my CSM, and my S5 NCO. WOW. I saw CSM [name redacted]'s knife and that is a great piece of equipment. I am the Operations Officer of [unit redacted] in Baghdad, Iraq and I would love to have one of the CQB1SG knives like his.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of my troops here in Iraq. Leading and being in the presense of these men has been some of greatest gifts God has given me. They are truely America's finest.

If this is possible, thank you so much. Even if not, thank you so much for providing my soldiers with these great tools.
As a mechanized infantryman a good knife can come in really handy. I was referred to your website by a fellow soldier who received a knife from you guys. Do you really give away these knives? The CQB1SG caught my eye and I would like to get my hands on one of them.

It's none of my business I know, but why aren't you looking for a new doctor?

Yeah, this would be a good time for that, since we have seen an uptick in demand lately. If you have Paypal, there is a donate link set up at the website now... http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/index.php/donate/.
