The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Our house is just on the edge of downtown and we're catty-corner from a feed store with a weight-scale. One spring night, soon after we moved in, we were awakened by the most awlful hair-raising screaming, shrieking, howling, bashing sounds from the feed store. It seems a trucker had left his load of pigs at the scale and gone home to get some sleep.
OB called the police, and held the phone up to the window for the dispatcher to listen to the noise. She said "Oh, my, that's terrible!" We agreed. The town was very small then, and they knew who the trucker was, so the load of pigs was moved shortly thereafter.
We still laugh about it. We hadn't started working full-bore on the house yet, and when we did, we slept through everything else that happened in the neighborhood! LSA

I'm already thinking of ways to cook the shrimp. Let's see, you can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sautee it. There's, um, shrimp kebabs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich... That's, that's about it.
To: osagebowman
It could be worse.... it could have been a load of pigs ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog
Heh, but in both cases "all's well that ends well"
G'nite ALL.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hah! that's a riotous story.
Sorry I wuz gone fer so long.
To: HairOfTheDog
Instead of a few barbecued shrimp, you could have had a pig roast!

SELL OUT!!! Bought off buy free seafood!Shouldn't that be "shell out"? Are you implying she's a shrimp wimp? That she fell for his act, hook line and sinker?
Man, I'm gone for a few hours and miss all the fun. Oh well, I had Genuine Indian Food cooked by a Genuine Indian, so it's ok.
