The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Then there's kumiss, which is basically fermented mare's milk. I'd go for it.

There's actually nothing I don't like the sound of. Except for mountain oysters. I'd have to be pretty hungry before I'd eat a bull's testicles, even if they are fried.

I haven't tried lutefisk...but it's just a matter of time.

I'll try anything once. Tried pickled herring...yuck-o-rama!

You know I can handle just about anything like blood, vomit and the such? Can't handle loose teeth, you know that. Can't handle snot.

Pickled herring has the consistency of snot.

You can't have cookies for breakfast?

Cookies for breakfast is the reason why I'm not a svelte little teenybopper right now ;-)

Ugh, hard ride. It seemed about to storm the whole way and the wind was right in my face so it was really hard. Plus I forgot my backpack and had to go back for it (fortunately I hadn't gone far). Now of course it's sunny and the wind's gone, but...

I've never had pickled herring.

But I'll try just about anything once. As long as it's still *food*.

Back from my ride, showered, havin' oatmeal with cinnamon and blueberries, and there's coffee brewing. Life is good.

I dunno that I'll try riding without at least having a snack first, though. Or maybe it's just riding so many days in a row without a rest day. Whatever the reason, my legs weren't working that well this morning. I still did the ride I'd been doing, plus a bit more - came almost out of town and all of a sudden was practically face to face with the foothills. Once I'm in better shape, I'm riding up into them!

But it's nice to be home with nice food. ;-)

Did look bad there for a bit, didn't it? I got back at about eight-forty, and I was hoping you weren't about to get caught in a downpour.

That's my philosophy. Of course I don't eat a lot of things I have eaten before, too. But people just call me picky. I'm not really. I like beef.... pork... chicken.... shellfish.... turkey.... bambi...

I got sprinkled on, and the wind was dreadful. Think I may need a rest day tomorrow myself, my knees are complaining. They're rather sick of all the work they do, pushing my poor overloaded bike up hills...

Plus I'm retaining water today so the scale was unhappy :-(

Well, maybe that's our trouble... We eat stuff that tastes good.

All these skinny people are skinny because they're eating stuff that is revolting. Hard to eat too much. ;~D

That does sound good!

Joshua just came in and asked for a snack. I asked him "What do you want?" He said "Gotta bell pepper?"

So he's snacking on a bell pepper!

:-)

We're off in a bit...going to the library.

I'm ignoring the scale. It's always unreliable for the first week or so after I start a new type of exercise. Dunno if sore muscles hold on to more water or what it is, but it happens consistently.

Looks like more people are looking at the apartment across the hall. And someone's moving out downstairs. Big doin's!

Yeah... that's probably it...

I've been eating yummy stuff that's still ok, according to Dr. Atkins... not as strict as I should be, though. I think the margarita last night was over the line.
