I haven't had a chance to really read the website, perhaps I should skip it and get the book. Reading websites is hard on my eyes.
The woman who gave me my kefir grains told me about the group meeting here in Tulsa and says they're a lot of fun. I like what they say about meat fat and Crisco.
Anyway, it looked familiar to me and I was pretty sure you'd told me about it before...
You have to keep historical perspective when reading the book. Some of his attempted applications of the data were too ambitious given the state of scientific knowledge of the day and have been refuted with modern research. And some of his terminology is outright offensive in today's world. However, neither of these negate the original data set. (and the pics will haunt you)
Change it to Graybeard39?
Okay, I'm convinced of that. Would you 'splain it to the fam'bly?
I can't seem to get the message across that the "let's just pick something up" mentality is killing us. Literally.
I just requested it online from the library...it's got five people wanting to read it before me.
I'm gonna suggest the title for purchase, since so many people are waiting for it.
smaagee, you're bad... I though 58 must be his birth year!
WooHoo!! A wish for the Happiest of Birthdays!
So the garden is a good step for me. Good veggies that we like that aren't 2-weeks stale and covered with chemicals. We just bought a freezer for the basement that I plan to fill with cuts of meat that are quickly cooked and big jugs of raw milk.
I also scour the internet for interesting foods - but they're expensive. I scour the grocery stores for good foods - but that's hardly one stop shopping.
I dunno. We do our best, take vitamins, and try not to stress. But I want to do so much better.
Yikes! That would make me old enough to be smaagee's dad. Okay, so I probably am, but still...
See we'd be better if we did that. But too often it's processed foods or carry out. I keep trying, but it's an uphill battle.
I think just being conscious of what you want and doing the best you can is the goal. That's what we do. I mean, a five dollar gallon of goat milk is nice on the rare occasion but it doesn't change the fact that we're on a tight budget and I can get two gallons of milk at Aldis for the same price.
A bag of my favorite granola might be more expensive than the bags of MaltoMeal cereal at Walmart. But it's not cheaper than Captain Crunch, which I buy now and then.
So I don't beat myself up for the granola because of the price.
(I don't quit buying Captain Crunch either though...I love the stuff. He he! I just don't buy it often. It's like the tofu...I love it, but only occasionally.)
I have in my mind ways my family could eat better. And I'm moving more toward that point than away from it.
I need to get the larger raised bed set up. I've got a few tomatoes, peppers, some herbs and zucchini growing in a 5x5 raised bed.
Maybe I should try going after one of those free range bunnies I've got hopping around in my yard.
No bunnies. Chipmunks.
And Nana says my only fault is that I don't put enough dirt around my plants.
Wife says "She really means that's your ~only~ fault."
Mmm! Free range bunnies!
LOL Would that go over well at the farmer's market, you think?
"Farm Fresh Vegetables...Free-Range Rabbit"
ROFLOL!!!

Fercryinoutloud get more dirt! :)
Really! I can get within 5 yards of the buggers before they start running.
Well you might have to go subversive start cooking for yourself. Get a nice gourmet magazine like Bon Appetite and put on airs that you'd like to eat something special and fancy. Old fashioned whole foods from around the world are often staple 'gourmet' dishes. I use the 'aspiring gourmet cook' ruse to keep the colleagues from thinking I'm a paranoid food freak.
Yup - it's the journey.
I get my freezer next week - can't wait to get real milk and make kefir!!! I like the idea of putting fruit in it. Yum!
sure
