The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Looks like our last stop is Hood River.

Wonder if I can get them to fly into SeaTac instead of Portland. It'll cost almost $100 extra to rent a car in Portland and leave it in Seattle.

I struggled at a job for a year making $8.00 an hour doing A/P work for a storage company. My boss was the owner's daughter, who could be cruel in some of her more personal remarks towards me.

I stuck it through and kept my options open and lo and behold, God presented me with those lovely 4 years at Troy Corp - where I was able to meet all of you!

He is looking out for you, chica - and the end result will definitely be worth the wait.

Get something temp while you wait. Any experience you pick up on those assignments just adds to your employee value anyway! :-D

Got home. Ouch. Had to walk up two long slops (from a good way up, though). I reallllly hurt.

But mostly in good ways.

Just frustrating that I've been holding onto hopes for that one job for so long. And they kept telling me I'd hear back soon...so I've been hesitant to apply for temporary jobs...Barnes and Noble or something at the mall, maybe.

But now...that leaves me high and dry and feeling like I've wasted a LOT of time. My fault too, I suppose, as I shouldn't have been counting on it so much.

Well...life goes on, as I said. This afternoon I'll drop that paperwork by campus. And just *maybe* this *won't* get chucked in the trash. And maybe this time next month I'll be riding to work with Jen. ;-)

Exactly.

Remain optimistic.

It's only two hours back to Portland from here, so it's not difficult to fly back out of Portland.

OK! Just have to book a mid-afternoon or early evening flight.

I'm thinking about taking Monday and Tuesday off (Jul 18 and 19.)

Yeah - late enough of a flight will make the drive down to Portland more casual. Sounds good.... we'll plan some activities for us!

Oh, Rosie...

~sigh~

Well, I've already prayed for you since I heard the news and I'll keep you in my prayers too. It'll be all right.

Temp? I did temp as a nurse and loved it...the schedules can be very flexible...and the pay is good.

Sounds like a fun time is going to be had!

It's always good to see OT...ASG I'm gonna run up and see her for a weekend...I've already invited myself.

;-)

Catch is that there aren't any temp tech jobs here, not that I can find. I've called around a bit.

So when I say temp...I'm meaning as in stop-gap. I'll apply at a few stores and see if I can get a clerk type job.

It wouldn't hurt for you to go and sign up with temp agencies, increasingly, they are handling technical temp placements. Some can lead to permanent jobs.

Yeah...but I've done that. Haven't had any luck. When the lady from the placement agency called me this morning to let me know that job is non-existant, I asked her if there was ANYTHING else she could put my name in for, and she said she hadn't seen anything in a long time, not for here.

What I'm hearing, as I think I've mentioned, is that there were massive layoffs from some of the bigger tech companies here not too long ago, and the competition is fierce. I'd be OK with switching fields...but there are very few entry level jobs.

Hey! This big guy in a big diesel pickup came by the house and was talking to the dog catcher (who was parked out in front of my house for some odd reason or other.) Steve overheard him telling the dog catcher he had a big cage and did the dog catcher want it? DC declined but Steve said "Let me get my wife!"

So Steve hollers at me and I come running and sure enough, this guy had a gigantic cage in the back of his truck! Shoot, I'll take it!

So the guy hauls the thing out and it's about my heighth and heavy! Apparently he kept ferrets in it.

Now I wanna stop right here and declare that after getting a whiff of this cage I can determine that I will NEVER own a ferret. Lord have mercy, it stunk worse than sewer. My chickens have a nice barnyard scent to them, imo...but this ferret cage absolutely stank. I left it out in the back yard for two rain storms before I'd even touch it.

Anyway, the cage was actually two cages one on top of the other and there was no floor...just a tall cage with no floor. It had two access doors in the front.

So I took the sides and back off the bottom cage, swung the front under to make a new "top" and now the cage has an access in the front and an access on top. It's a complete cage with what used to be the top is now the bottom. I'm pretty proud...it was a bit of an effort and I pinched my finger pretty good.

I figure when we go to move I can put the chickens in it to transport them and I can also raise meat chickens in it if this experiment turns out ok.

But I'll keep looking. Maybe I've missed some agency. I dunno. I did a websearch...maybe I'll go through yellow pages instead.

Heh! You've seen one cage, you've seen 'em all.

I'm uploading my new tractor pictures right now though...I'll post those in a bit.

Heh! They are really growing, these chicks...have all their wing feathers already. They're only a little over 2 weeks old.

But yeah, a new abode for new chicks, possibly.

I really love Oklahoma. I don't want to leave here. The people are just so cool. Nobody knows a stranger, it seems sometimes.

You should get more pictures of the nuggets...I'm curious to see how they've grown since Shootmoot.
