The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

hehehehe...

Jen has a point. I'd pay to rent Bakshi if I needed to demonstrate its evil to someone. ;-P

Back!

Yeah...went to church. Woke up at about six and tried to go back to sleep, but then at six thirty or so someone outside was blaring a horn, and I gived up.

It's already hot out there...ugh.

And today's list o' new job openings includes one as an IT helpdesk tech for a veterinary clinic. Government connected in some way, though I dunno how that would be for a vet clinic.

And it's REALLY good pay. Hm....

Catch is that the application procedure is a pain in the neck. You have to apply in person. But I may do it anyway. I'm still hoping for that job, but I might as well apply for any other possible, right?

Go for it!

Lots of fun already today. One monitor acting weird, the backups went bad... fun.

It must be for the Animal Control Dept or some other government funded veterinary service.

Most govt jobs ask you to apply in person, so that makes sense.

Good luck! It would be a great job to get!

Got an email from a guy that goes to my church. His wife is a friend of mine that I enjoy visiting with whenever we see each other, but I don't know him too well. So I was telling her about Steve graduating and that we hoped to stay in this area and find a little bit of land.

She says "You know my husband is a realtor, don't you?"

So he wrote me and asked me what we were interested in...told me he understood the uncertainty at this point but would keep an eye out for us. This is what I wrote to him...

Paul,

Thanks for getting in touch with me! I sure would appreciate some help!

Steve graduates with his Masters in August. We're hopeful that we'll get to stay in this area, but aren't even sure of that. Still, this is where we want to stay and will be making efforts to find a job in this area.

Our interest? Hmmm! Well, we want to raise chickens. A lot of them, but not like a chicken farm! Just a bunch of chickens for meat and eggs to sell privately. We'd like to raise a few goats. A beef calf or two and a couple of pigs. Bees. Enough acreage to be able to do all this.

So a gated community with a whole lot of covenants isn't what we're probably looking for! Ha ha ha!

I'd like a great big garden. So bottom land would be nice, with a river nearby. Not rocky hilly land. Pasture-type land with a little woods and a pond. Not ranch-type land. Not a lot of scruffy trees, but some on the edges of the land would be ok.

A house on the land would be nice...a farm house if possible. Wood frame, two-story. A "Jim Walters" type home that we could work on ourselves would be good. Partially finished would be fine. An old house we could fix up would be nice too.

A barn or large shed would be nice.

Areas I like are the country outside Owasso, Catoosa, Claremore, down from there in the "New Tulsa" area, (The countryside down 11th, 21st, and such) east of Broken Arrow down County Line Road, Coweta, Bixby, down highway 75 on the east side (the west side of 75 land seems to get rocky.)

The house we're in now is a small house on a gigantic lot. It has a 25x25' shop that has heat and air and is partially carpeted. It's privacy fenced in the back. Several large trees. Three bedroom, one bath.

Like I say, we don't know what the future holds. But I'm curious about what's "out there". Thanks again for your help!

Kim

Hafta do up a cover letter (I hate cover letters...*sigh*) and get my info together...then go down either this afternoon or possibly tomorrow. It's about a street over from the church, so I COULD just do like I did this morning, but bring all my stuff with me.

It *sounds* like my ideal...working helpdesk (my favorite element in the tech world) with animals around. But I dunno what my chances are. And if their hiring process takes as long as the other...yikes!

I should know on the other position within a week. I hope. But this new one pays a lot better...

All the trouble would be worth it if you got the job, chica.

Benefits would undoubtedly include free or reduced-cost care for the kitties!

Keep us posted!

You have such a detailed picture of what you want that it should be easy to say "Yes, we have something" or "No, nothing like that at this time." Which is both good and bad, I guess!

Heh! You know, I drew a picture of the house we're in now and prayed for it. Told the Lord I'd like a bath and a half, but the half bath wasn't necessary. The house is exactly what I drew, with only one bath.

I already have the land and house sketched...and I'm being very specific in my prayers this time! LOL!

Sure! Maybe we could even do the Jiffy-Lube thing? Is there a bike shop right near there, maybe?

I need to get gas, too. I think the last time I got it was in Loveland when Margaret was here...I dunno even where the nearest station is. Sad.

Working on the wording for the cover letter. If I have everything together, I may wanna run down to Oak Street...which is one of those streets on the left that you can't turn to from downtown. *sigh*

Jiffy Lube? Not really nearby, but we can work it. There's a couple nearby gas stations. You're in luck, the prices have been coming down lately.

Bike shop I'm thinking of is behind B&N.

Isn't there a lube kinda place on Mason? Maybe that'd work.

OK, I THINK my cover letter sounds OK. May make you read it when you get home...

Unless you called them scum-sucking government pigs, or referred to yourself with the royal we, I'm sure you're good.

BTW, please if you're in the mood eat some of that massive pot of curry for lunch.

Cover letters are tricky...there's a fine line to tread between sounding pretentious and sounding overly casual. I hates 'em...yesssss, precious.

BTW, please if you're in the mood eat some of that massive pot of curry for lunch.

Ow...twist my arm...harder!

Heh...I'd be glad to!

Good! Otherwise it'll go nasty. I put the remainder of the rice at the bottom but it's not well mixed.
