The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yep! Now I'm making a loaf of bread on the quick cycle. It should be done just in time for the jedis to get home. They can have hot fresh bread with their lunch!

Corin's off at a bored meeting, but what are your excuses?

Nope, I was off at an infernal pre-bored meeting.

I wonder what Farmer Cotton's wife would have said to that...

Of course, she was built rather like Farmer Cotton's wife. =]

Did I give you some yeast? At ShootMoot?

I can't remember.

Anyway, if I did...1.5 tsp equals a packet of regular yeast, IIRC...I figured it up one day and wrote it on the baggie I keep mine in.

If the recipe calls for a packet...that's the measurement I use. If it calls for a certain amount, I just use that amount and not worry about it.

Also, this yeast doesn't require "proofing".

Oh, yeah, we're having company, and chicken curry, tomorrow. Do you have your youthish group tonight?

This time we're definitely having people over. If some don't show we just won't start in on Full Metal Panic.

Well, if the recipe calls for you to let the yeast proof in warm water or something, you can blow it off. Just dump it in with the rest of the ingredients. I like to disperse mine equally in the flour.

Drives Steve crazy, he's a creature of habit and if his grandmother's recipe says to proof the yeast, by golly that's the way it's supposed to be done! [Emphasis his.]

But this yeast is a totally different beast than his grandmother's. He can't stand the idea though. LOL!!! He's so funny.

But I like when it gets all foamy and smells of alcohol.

Heh!!!

Well, Steve still does it, so it apparently doesn't hurt anything...but it's not necessary.
