One aspect of recoil that can be controlled somewhat is the muzzle flip from heavy-recoil weapons. A muzzle brake helps with that.
My Smith 629 and my dad's Ruger Redhawk had slots in the top of the barrel EDM-machined in by MagnaPort. That was easy, because the company is only a half-hour drive from me, and if you catch them on a slow day, they'll do it on the spot.
The muzzle brake cuts down on perceived recoil, due to venting of hot gases out the top of the barrel at the muzzle. It does, however, increase muzzle flash.
My worst-kicking weapon is a Winchester 1886 in 45-90. Those old-time curved steel buttplates may look neat, but they just increase the punishment from recoil. I get a bruised shoulder (and I very carefully position the stock against my shoulder), from firing ONE round with 500-grain cast bullets.
Wide, flat buttplates are much easier on the shoulder.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Someone needs a moonin'...
You know what?
I think we've gone full circle.
We went ~so~ crazy that we finally became sane again. ;-P

Corin Updates:
Dr. didn't exactly confirm that it was a spider bite, but the nurse did. Got a tetanus shot and an antibiotic.
Dr. was more concerned with somethin' else. Looked at the foot and said "are you a diabetic?"
Um....no....
Then he ordered bloodwork. ~sigh~
In house news, contractor said that someone actually sawed the floor joists in to and braced them up again with 2x4s. He couldn't figure out any reason to do that. But it's typical for this house.
Best part of that is that nothing is rotten.
The engraving is actually a coating that is fused by the laser into pits below the surface of the steel. You'd have to grind away the steel to remove the markings.
High-end knives are now laser-engraved because it doesn't stress the metal like stamping would, and the steel is so hard, almost nothing else will touch it.
My "cute bitty rifle" is a Steyr AUG with 16.1-inch barrel. I'll post a photo some day.
Ugh. Had meself a Corin day today.
Found out that due to financial problems, my position is being cut back to half-time. Which also means loss of benefits. It's not ~too~ much of a surprise, as the financial issues have been known for a while. But it still ain't pleasant. They said they hope to recover enough in a few months to bring me back to full time, but I'm probably not going to plan on it.
Time to update my resume again.
I need a beer.
Cheer up! :-D
I've got one Guinness left in the fridge. I'll drink it for you.
Heh, thanks.
Any time. :)
I'll drink to that... :-)
Howdy howdy there folkses... :-)
Eesh. No fun. Good luck on the resume stuff, I guess...
Oh dear...keep us posted!
...and when they pay you, rush to their bank to cash the check.
Ugh...more Corin style news?
Best of luck to ya! Hope something works out!
Hi Ramius!
You know, I keep hearing ads on the radio about getting your doctor to look at you feet for signs of "diabetes and other diseases".
You probably just have truly hideous feet and he can't believe they belong to a human ;-)
Ack. Bummer.
Well... hopefully they pull through, but at least it's been a good resume-stuffer.
